To Aquacube or not to Aquacube?

I am hoping some of the more experienced campers out there can point me in the right direction. I am considering either the Companion Aquacube Logic or the Hot Water On Demand packages. But there seems to be as many who hate them as love them. Please let me know which is best, or is there a better system available?

Haven't seen or heard of many people with the AquaCube but know a few with the HWOD and love it. Don't have either myself as I have the Ensuite in the new van. When I was using the shower tent etc, I boiled water and used a bucket with a 12v shower head, worked a treat. For me anyway.

Hi Chris , I have just installed a Truma water heater model B14 , which is a 14 ltr storage unit , they tell me that instantaneous heaters are too noisy, anyway this seems to be a really nice unit.

Hi Stratman77.

I have thought about buying one of those units but I keep thinking that it only has one use, what we carry has to have multi use or it don't travel.

I will try to explain it to do with weight, how to store it and where.

We use a single butane burner gas stove to heat water for a shower, reasonable economy portable for cooking away from the van has lots of uses.

Our boiler made of aluminuim is light is used for cooking strews, water boiling, cooking yabbies etc. I store the throw away type canisters in tge boiler when travelling, the stove travels in the ute for cooking when away from the caravan.

Hope this helps. Ralph.

Just for interest, I have a instantaneous water heater in the "Chief" and I don't find it noisy really. The only thing I hear is the water pump. Not sure about outside though and I don't think  it a good idea to go out while having a shower as I might frighten all the neighbours.

Hi Chris.

The hot water systems you are asking about are they  the portable ones to use to make a cup of tea and then can have a shower via? Ralph

We've used a Coleman hot water on demand and found it to be very good for free camping - that's using a tent not the Avan. They are a bit bulky when you use a 9kg gas cylinder plus a 20 litre water container. Ours lit easily enough and only took a few seconds to reach shower temperature. Had a flat battery in the unit one time so we used a jumper from the car. They seem to use less electronics than the Aquacube. Seen them as cheap as $219 and also 2nd hand they go cheap.
The basic unit needs a gas adaptor to run off a 9KG bottle and the shower attachment is so-so so some people replace that.
Good Luck.

Hi, Radar! Yes, the Aquacube is made by Companion and the other one by Coleman. The Coleman one is about $100 cheaper, and is less 'sophisticated' but is larger. The real issue seems to be that you have to have sufficient water available so you either have it on board or it has to be available on site. That's OK if there is a tap 10 feet away, but that's not often the case. We may keep using lots of deodorant!!!! Seriously, I will keep it under consideration subject to what current users feel about them.

Hi Doug , that comment was from the guy that I used to install the heater , I have no idea because I have never even seen one of these units before . We had the coleman before but at greens it was a pain because of the algie in the water that blocked the gauze filter, we also used a 4kg bottle on ours .

If you get back here Dennis come on down and I will show you one then. I like it but can't compare to any caravan water heaters as I haven't used any before. I had a small one in the Avan but never used it. Silly me.
