I was just on facebook, and noticed that petrol had dropped to US $2 a gallon in Oklahoma city, US. A US gallon is 4 litres. I wonder when its going to drop to 50c a litre here?Notice the price of diesel, also. I won,t hold my breath..Bill

lack of competition with the oil suppliers in Aust (mainly BP) and retail - mainly Coles Express and Woolworths will ensure our prices do not accurately reflect the price these outfits are paying from their supply chain.
There were a news feature on TV a cple of nights ago. In 2 Aust States the margin between the imported buying price and the retail selling price was about 8-9% - which is fair, but other States and Territories (NT being one of them) the margin was up to 39% !!!
The best the ACCC could say, was the situation is fluid at the moment (like petrol - fluid, lol).
We need real competition both in who imports oil and refined fuels to Aust and also the retailers.
Theres an old business saying: the Banks and oil companies own Australia; not Australians or the Federal Govt. That's why the Feds always huff and puff at election times about the Banks profits and the big money made in the fuel industry, but do nothing about it when one or the other two parties get into power

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
Then again, Bill, next time you drop in here for fishing worms (American fishing worms that do all the fishing while you relax with a beer), you can also fill up with juice at 20 cents a gallon.
Are you talking of the price of fuel or the tax on fuel? Fuel prices are much the same world wide. What varies the most between the countries is the tax. Have a look at the graphs on that link. You will notice that the countries that have better economies than ours also have higher taxes.
I have no desire to pay Yankee prices for my fuel. That will only come with the same sort of economy. No Medibank for the majority of grey nomads and poor people. Low income workers having to grovel for tips just to feed themselves. If we go to an economy with Yankee fuel prices then all of you who largely depend upon your pensions will be out looking for menial jobs like dunny cleaners to survive.
