G'day Nomads. Being old, buggered and lazy, and having a ute that's exposed to the elements all the time, I wondered if there's a wash and wax product on the market that does a reasonable job of keeping the paintwork clean and presentable. I'm way past all that rubbing and polishing business. Too bloody hard.
Gary, why would you want to wash a car let alone a ute. Polishing just wears the paint away and washing makes them rust. I just keep the windows clean and let nature wash the car for me when it rains.
Car wash/wax products are in the same basket as snake oil IMHO.
Good Luck.
Yes me two, I also have done this washing & polishing bit and agree with you ~ to bloody hard, and when i have used polish, it has taken ages to remove the polish !!!
What i have been useing for the last few years, and is cheap. I find that Amarole ( heavey duty ). I use it on all of my cars and even the caravan and the van is only 2 years old in December.
I also use a high pressure washer, and while my washer dosen't have it some also have a small hose that you can use to feed the car wash detergent to the washer, and that after a short 'soak' I wash off with the pressure washer, all come up like brand new.

I love the aerosol can of FW1 (i think) - a few hardware places but otherwise is sold in WA in supermarket carparks. A caruba wax in spray can - spray on, wipe with cloth then again with micro cloth. Cleans and polishes with no effort at all.

The navy use to wash there vehicles off with kero rag after washing..
I use the normal car wash , then wipe off with wet rag maguires Corunna wax it mixes with water
Which sparingly spreads wax all over the body of vehicle..
Then a quick polish with cheesecloth or soft towel..this I use on newer gel coated cars..
I'd use Kero on commercial white painted vehicles..
The kero washes out moisture from cavities ...
My dad always used to put a 1/4 cup of kero in the carwash water.......that was back in the 70s
Today I use Armor All wash and wax.
The Blue one. www.armorall.com.au/products/wash-wax/
Depending on where you have been be careful washing dirt off. A lot of dirt contains tungsten and will put very fine scratches in your paint work. Always use copious amounts of hose water with a wash cloth when getting that initial crust of dust off never put that cloth in the wash water.
Do not use the armor all green heavy duty car wash on new cars or those with good paint......its not nice after a while.
Some tips.
Give the car or van a good rinse off with water first.
Use a nice deep bucket for the water.
Just dip your wash cloth/sponge in the top of the bucket never let it go near the bottom of the bucket, that's where all the dirt is.
Start with the roof.
Wash one section at a time. With cars I just do one panel at a time. Back and forth and up and down. hose off straight away.
Move on until the whole vehicle is complete.
Get a good quality chamois. The goat skin one were good but the new synthetic ones are fantastic. Trial and error. The one I use leaves no streaks at all with just two wipes.
Once everything is dry I apply a coating of Rainex to the windscreen outside.
I then clean every window and windscreen on the inside.
If you have any plastic/vinyl black parts on your car or van and they are faded get some "back to black"
Lastly I fill the washer bottle with water and bars bugs.
Done.
