It's a scam. IGNORE this *******. Oil rig does not exist. This scum bag is only after money from you. Next there wil be mention of Western Union. If you are dealing with Paypal, report him immediately this way they can shut him down. Larry

Thanx guys, I new in my gut it was a scam, it would cost him more to have it shipped, I think the bit about having it shipped to Darwin, when he is in NZ made me giggle, obviously thinks NZ is up top LOL anyhow id he works on an oil rig he can afford to buy a new one !!!!

Yes,scam it is. I found I got the text message every time I placed an ad. Each time I simply replied that I was referring the matter to the federal police. No more contact.
Geez the scammers are working at the bottom rung now, $40 items. Business must be tough. Yes they are scammers and I wish there was a way to put them out of their miserable existence on this earth. Oxygen wasters. Cheers Allan
Hi I was interested in a bridge, what's it look like Good condition ?
From my experience there are two types of scam on Gumtr**.
First the one similar to above where they want some details of an account to get your money
The second is a text that comes shortly after posting the add, that asks about it in general terms and asks for you to reply to an email address. This scam is just "mining" your email address to sell to other scammers ??
The answer to both is the same, do nothing. If perchance you ignored a genuine buyer they will probably reply again or ring the number.
I just had one of these as well just a few minutes ago when trying to sell a car on Gumtree - I sent him a nicely worded reply to his offer, anyway this is what he sent me:
Thanks for the response, i would have loved to call you directly but due to the nature of my work we do not have access to phone at the moment, which is why I contacted you with internet messaging facility.
Am buying this for my son for his 21st birthday. He lives in Darwin presently so is going to be shipped to Darwin after have sorted out with the payment, i want to be sure if it is still in good condition ,i will not be able to come for inspection now all i really need from you is the exact details of the car. I don't mind adding an extra $300.00 for you just to take down the posting.
Due to the nature of my work i am a very busy man working all day,am a sailor am presently on-board, i don't have access to my bank account online as am not with my credit card details here but i have my ANZ bank account link up with my PayPal account so I will be paying you through PayPal to your nominated bank account or better still is if you have a PayPal account ,please get back to me with your BSB and account details or PayPal account so i can proceed with the payment and contact the courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver it in NT for my son .Await your reply .
I have several responses that i send in a return e-mail. Depends on the mood I'm in whether I respond or not, and what response I choose. This is one I sent today:
Dear
Yes I heard something was going down in xxxxx. Sorry to hear about your husband.
Unfortunately I am unable to help you with this transaction as I'm already involved in a couple of multi-million dollar deals with Miss Pamela Bin Laden and Miss Sandra Hussein.
Don't worry I won't mention the fund to the Interpol Officers if they happen to pop round for tea.
Well I guess replying might make you feel better and a whitty answer too. However my thoughts are that you have just given your email address to someone who has failed to get your money, so may then just sell your address to another scammer or use it him(her)self for amusement.
Brownie2. I would not even bother to say "I was referring the matter to the federal police". These people are staying in front of police from all over the world. Our Federal police are low on their radar.
Better I think to just ignore them completely. I have worked in a couple of third world countries and had no troubles. I was however always aware of the need to 'stay out of bad situations' Walk away early is usually a safe option with no down side !!
Cheers jaahn
