Flip Flops

New Rule, if you have a fellow camper flip flopping past your van, I suggest we sneak in and glue their thongs together with Sika Flex, I think that outa do it. (just joking)

No don't glue me flips flops as I love the mud and water splashing against my back.

The old story, correct too, is that on the Gold Coast the sound is, 'Shlipppp........flop'. The ferals there are too lazy to lift their feet when they walk, hence the characteristic sound.

In 1967 I was in Monrovia Liberia.   A hawker came aboard as per usual selling gear or swapping for anything of value.   I swapped an "Old" (oil stained) white uniform shirt for a pair of Flip Flops and a Coconut.

The Flip flops lasted a week then were dispatched over the wall  into the South Atlantic.   Couldn't  stand the  damn things.    Feel guilty about the pollution of the seas now.

The coconut was enjoyed.

Flip Flops or Jandles = NZ.   Aust.= Thongs.   I know I'm being pedantic, but I just get so fed up with the fact that we're [no matter how slowly,] losing our language.

I will always be Australian.

Cheers,

Sheba.

On our trip round the block, I started picking up lots of the discarded 'Thongs' that I found and threading them onto the back bumper of the van .... until SWMBO spotted them, that is.

My explanation that they were good for making washers for the Alvey yabbie pump wasn't good enough.   Nor was the fall back excuse that I wanted to nail them to a wall in our home BBQ area as a memento.

On a winter trip to Port Macquarie, I broke my beaut thongs.  Spent hours going from shop to shop to get replacements.  Very frustrating.  So now I carry two spare pairs in my shoe cupboard in the van. Double pluggers of course.

SWMBO thinks that I have a Thong fetish.   Perhaps I do but not that sort of Thong.

I'm sorry,, but after wearing boots for the last 45 years I now only ever wear thongs,,
much healthier for your feet too and a fair shower gauge,,
If you think your feet need a shower, chances are the rest of you needs one too!

An Interesting conversation. I have worn thongs all my life over the summer months.

I happened to be at the podiatrist the other day and got talking about why my toes tend curl under (Hammered is another term for this condition). He said that the wearing of thongs was one of the biggest contributors to this condition.

Apparently sandals are much healthier for feet than thongs

I do love my thongs though.............

Lost a thong, somewhere in the van, so donated the left over to the Thong Shack near Denham, WA.  That is the purple one in the centre of the photo.  Paid $30.00 for a new pair in Denham, much to my disgust.  Subsequently found other thong! In Clermont, QLD.

They seem to alter the way people walk,     I always think they look very slovenly.

$30 !!!  I was a bit peed off paying $18 in Port Macquarie.

That's why I carry 2 new spare pairs in the Van.  ($2 & $5 at Target/Big W)

While on the subject of footwear, shops are now hiding their foot measuring equipment because they stock a limited range of 'medium' (width) and no half sizes. There is going to be a lot of foot and posture problems in the future from feet squashed into, or sliding about in, ill-fitting 'medium' shoes.

They require you to select the least worst fitting from the range of ill fitting.

In the future I think I will be buying my shoes from overseas, via the Net.

Overseas suppliers are happy to have returns and to swap sizes.
