Last evening our Microwave oven wouldnt heat or cook even though the containers were warm to the touch. It is 7 years old. My thoughts are to replace it.
It always has been a concern as it sure does creak while we are motoring.....
Hi guys, and welcome to the forum - our microwave oven makes a great cupboard for storing long life milk and sugar - can't think when we actually used it as a microwave!!!! A friend keeps her biscuits in theirs.
I reckon seven years is a good life span for it - especially as it is on the move in your van, not expensive these days, and I don't think you would find anyone to repair it - this is a "throw away" society these days, unfortunately.
That's my take on it, for what it is worth - enjoy your travelling, and the forum!

Alan when you look for a new microwave oven don't be fooled by the wattage listed boldly on the front of the oven that will be output and 750 watts seems able to be handled with a 1000watt generator but behind in smaller print will be 1250 watts input.
I bought a 750 watt microwave and a 2500 watt inverter then could start up the engine and run the microwave for 7 minutes for an overall drop of .1 volts. I have since bought a 2.6kva gennie. It has been used 3 times for 7 minutes a time since June. The microwave doesn't get much use and as Jules said it is a good cupboard.
Just replace it, they are not very expensive, make sure you buy one with a door that has a positive latch, otherwise you always have to remember to remove the glass turntable plate before moving, as it moves around in the oven and causes the door to open and the plate ends up on the floor

We use our micro all the time. It is hard to do a small stew or soup for two people. When we have a cook up we freeze left overs and heat them up, in micro if in a caravan park.
We replaced our old micro with a Panasonic that doesn't have a turn table.

We always wrapped the plate when not in use in a piece of non slip matting and left it inside the microwave, we never had a problem with the door opening. If you do leave the plate in without any wrapping as well as a possible door problem like David says the travel movement can wear through the inside cabinet wall to bare metal.
We have also used ours as storage in camps with no power, but did use it when on power.

So lovely to get so many replies. Thank you again but wouldnt you believe it.......husband had a look at it this morning and got it working......I have no idea why it wouldnt for me....and I bought a special ceramic casserole dish for it and the turntable just sat there refusing to budge.

Ha Ha.....Murphy's law, the casserole dish wouldn't have been too heavy for it?
I was about to say "some of us have it (Alan) and some of us don't" but just glad it is working again...
I made a cake in my M/W this morning. Turned out great. So ours gets a lot of use. Now the ice maker is another story. That's where I store my long life milk.
Yes, I feel the dish was too heavy but with my ovens at home I have no problem with heaviness and thats where the Icemaker lives. None in this little 'log cabin' as was overneard being described by one truckie.
