A day doesn't go by where there is not some Caravan Park attacking our rights to Freedom Camping. I cannot remember seeing a Motel owner tackling Caravan Parks for installing cabins and directly competing with them.
Councils that run caravan parks usually have as many cabins as caravan sites and the cabins are always located in the premium positions. Privately run Caravan Parks do the same and there's not a murmur from the Motels or Hotels......
Gary, I think you have missed one important point, both the motel and the caravan park as business ventures, true they are competing for the same dollar, but that is seen as fair.
Caravan parks (at least some of them) just see free camping a bunch of cheap old fa$%s trying to free load, and as such robbing their business of what is rightly theirs.
What has not happened yet, is the old fa%&s banding together properly to present a cohesive view, and to help the caravan parks understand that the people who are free camping just would not be there if they had to pay caravan park prices all the time.
We are still a splintered group, who sometimes have someone speak out, but it is not coordinated, so the message gets diluted, and we are an easy defenseless target.
Plendo - you've hit the nail on the head - we moan, but are not organized and don't "exist" as a powerful lobby (if we were organized), whereas the C/P's belong to an industry body that employs full time people to represent them

Actually, it is entirely our fault that we are not organised as there is no excuse....the motorhomers got together and have the well organised CMCA that carries some clout, are we lesser souls or not as organised as our close cousins, obviously, as all we do is whinge about it!

Yes it is true that Caravan Park lobby is strong and has some dubious supporters, there are some caravan and motorhome manufactures that are financial supporters of this lobby group. Yes the same manufacturer that will sell you a fully self contained unit of your choice and then have the audacity to support a group who actively suggest you can't use it. Another point that I make that while the CMCA do work hard for their members, both full and associates, (I don't want to start the argument re membership) but do stress that any outcome from the CMCA lobby will benefit all, as do the CMCA dump points. There is representation for caravanners, it's just that the majority are not prepared to spend a little cash and join in. The National Association of Caravan Clubs (NACC) joined up with the CMCA to form MoTOURing Australia. Originally it formed with four groups but the ACC spat the dummy and walked out reckoning they could do better on their own. The three member organisations are the NACC, CMCA and Australasian Touring Caravan, Motorhome & Camping Club. You can join the NACC by joining one of your local caravan clubs or join the ATCM&CC though the link above. The ATCM&CC is a good club to join if you do a lot of wandering. The CMCA is also available to caravanners, albeit with reduced voting rights.
I suggest you don't just winge about lack or representation, Join one of the above organisations and join the strength.
A few times I had enquired with caravan clubs in stands at shows, and it all appeared to be focused around the organised trips, which are not really our thing, so we had not bothered.
I was not aware of the higher representative body, and that certainly sounds as if it will make being a club member worthwhile.
I believe we all should belong to one of the groups to give all nomads a stronger voice
I will be joining CMCA when I get my van as I think they have a good voice and doing plenty with the dump points, RV friendly towns and also free sites by members with plenty of land

"Caravan parks (at least some of them) just see free camping a bunch of cheap old fa$%s trying to free load, and as such robbing their business of what is rightly theirs."
In my 35 years in business I never once thought of customers as being rightly mine. What gives caravan parks the right to think we are "rightly theirs"

OK, well I agree with all the above posts but guess what!!
Ballarat opens our own FREE, 48 HOUR, self contained RV campsite on December 6th at 1pm. Heavily campaigned for by CMCA Members and will be supervised by CMCA Members for all RV'ers to use.
Pioneer Park, a beaut large treed established Park with lovely green grass has been won by consistent lobbying by CMCA Members for us all. CMCA will be supplying sizzles for lunch whilst the Mayor cuts the ribbon at 1pm.
If you are in the area please try and be there for this occasion with your C'van, Motorhome or RV of choice and help us enjoy the day. PET friendly and with lovely walks around the Park.
There are NO facilities except rubbish bins and LEAVE no TRACE is essential for us to continue with this, we are on a 12 months trial period and our C/Park friends will be ready to pounce if we step out of line.
Suitable for all size rigs on firm level ground. Phone, TV, and internet coverage is excellent and shopping is only 1.2k's at Stockland Plaza. Toilet Dump Points are now available at four of our large Caravan Parks on a voucher system which is subsidised by Council.
Good access from Western Highway: from Melbourne exit at Alfredton sign then Left and 1st right, or from the West exit highway at Wendouree sign Right onto Learmonth Road and Left at first roundabout. On your GPS - S37.52.019, E143.82.210
Many thanks for that info Ballarat Bill, I love a positive posting......lets hope more happen round Australia by Osmosis, and it sounds with more than a little help from CMCA....and we all benefit...Hoo Roo

Excellent news Bill, and thanks to all teh people who put the hard work into making it happen.
Appart from the good news of a new free camp site in Bill's note, there is also a strong message for us about the value of an organisation like the CMCA, that is organised, has a clear mission, and the commitment to make things happen.
As Ken mentioned earlier we should all be members of an organisation like this.
This little black duck is off to investigate CMCA membership.
Just a point about the CMCA might be a good assocation for MH but not sure about CV owners.
I looked at joining this organisation because they are the main group pushing for low cost camping and more dump points through the RV friend town program. However their main focus is motor homes not caravans with no voting rights for caravan owners who become associate members only. So this may mean their focus is for Motorhomes rather than all RVs.
I understand also that the other issue is there is growing evidence that some of these towns in the program have sites that specify available for motorhomes to overnight not trailables. This I think is due to the majority of Motorhomes having built-in grey water tanks and caravans and campers mostly dont.
The ACC might be a better option for Caravaners to join, they have a similar RV Town program are mainly CV focused but are currently a smaller newer organisation.
Just to confirm I am not a member of any club and this is just my observation.
i agree DUN WURKIN we spent a open day at Bulahdelah it was a solo event organised by the cmca what a well organised event,
we will be joining the cmca not just for the added voice but to go on their coming up events ,
also Bulaahdelah is a very nice, donation site organised by the the lions club,
the town has attracted many RVers since their town was cut off by the Pacific highway by pass ,if only more small towns could do the same ,
we stayed a few nights and added some extra dollars to the local community
well done Bulahdelah NSW
The ACC might be a better option for Caravaners to join,
I would suggest not to join them to assist with the campaign. They were originally were members of Moutouring but pulled out. One of their beefs is that Moutouring would not bend their way self containment programme. They insisted on going their way and not the way that had been in existence for some time. If we keep chopping and changing our minds then those who we are lobbying are not going to take us seriously.
Why support an organisation that is at odds with the major body?

They told me that they pulled out because the CMCA wanted full control over the group. Like with most organisations their constitution doesnt allow this. so are going on their own with a similar scheme.
My point to others is that from my investigations the CMCA is focused on Motorhomes not caravans. Caravaners do not have a vote and become associate members with no say.
The ACC is a much newer organisation which is being run on the same basic principals as the Caravan Club UK a large well organised national club which the ACC hope to become in Aus. In the future. Their focus is with caravans and camper trailers everyone becomes a full member.
I personally dont have anything against the CMCA nor am I a member of any club. But I do suggest that anyone wanting to become a member doesnt join on the basis of what you or I say. That they contact both and anyother club on their list, get the facts as it stands for their situation before just signing up because they think they might be the only club working on low cost camping or RV friendly towns. There are others with a similar scheme.

Seems strange, they did not insist on taking over NACC or ATCM&CC. Something fishy there. To get with the strength I would b joining one of the NACC clubs or ATCM&CC if they want to get with the main push. I think ACC came in too late to achieve greatness.

The CMCA do have full control over the "Leave No Trace" scheme the other clubs are just going along with it and can be overruled by the CMCA from what I have been told.
If you are a caravan owner and are OK on having no rights then go for it. Hate to think what will happen when a large number of caravan members have a disagreement with the controlling MH members. I personally think if they take your money they should give you a voice and allow you to vote just the same as anyother member.
Everyone to their own I hope.
Moonraker, You originally said "They told me that they pulled out because the CMCA wanted full control over the group." That's a little different from the fact that CMCA administer the Leave no Trace Scheme and they were not prepared to amend it just to accommodate a splinter group. The LNT is a good workable scheme that the other Moutouring members have accepted. I don't see any reason to dummy split over it. That's why I suggest joining one of the Moutouring member groups.

Peter D There is no difference to me so I dont know where you are coming from.
That aside if you or anyone else would like to see the written comment as to why the ACC left Motouring you will find it at the australiancaravanclub.com page 2 of the home pages Chairmans report.
I have also noted that this forum has a topic in March titled "Leave No Trace".Worth a look.
I also think these last few posts are off topic so the "Leave No Trace" topic or new might be more. PeterD you might like to start a topic headed " Why you should join the CMCA"
Good luck mat!

Does anyone have drawings for a Jayco cabin model number 331050 cabin manufactured in 20000 ?
Hi Steven, Unfortunately you have tagged onto a nearly eight year old forum - I don't have drawings but I'm sure that Jayco themselves may be able to help.

We were on the road for 10 years permanently. Used a combination of freedom camps sites and caravan parks over the time amd were members of CMCA
We have now sold our beloved "Dunmowin"and bought a villa in the Southern Downs.
BUT, we have not finished travelling. We have decided to still travel, using combination of pubs and caravan park cabins.
In early days (motorbike) touring, we stayed very cheaply in pubs, but these days, the pub rooms have become premium price, with no/rarely ensuite and no cooking facilities.
Pricing a week away in February, it is obvious the best price we can get is in a caravan park, with G'day membership, and stay 7 pay 6 - just like the caravan sites. Pub prices were/are exorbitant, when you factor in a meal either at the pub or elswhere.
So put me in a different ball game, I do understant your plights, have just moved on to the next level......
