reviews on swift caravans

Hi to everyone,

I have just joined the Grey nomads forum so a newby at this.I am looking to buy a used2006 model Swift caravan. My intention is to hit the road and spend the next five years going as far around aussi as I can.I have bought a nissan navara 4x4 diesal turbo and can tow the 19 ft van i am looking at. I guess what I am really asking is what must I be careful to look out for and has anyone who has joined the grey nomads site got a swift van.Being a loan lady I need all the mod cons a swift van can give me. Oh I will not venture off road with any van I buy.

well here is hoping someone in the know can help me

Kind regards sherria ( beehive )smile

Hi , do a Google search , that'll get you started in the right direction , I know with my Bailey as well as a lot of other eu brands they had some delaminatining problems with the suppliers double glazed windows at one stage
Most would've been recalled and replaced or replaced when there was an issue , so pay attention to the windows , also check for dampness in corners etc
Make sure everything works ( ask for a demo of all appliances like fridges , pump, toilet , tv , air con , blinds , heater etc )
Also check the antisway lights up ( if fitted )
That'll be a good start :)

Cheers ken

Welcome Sherria, Im sure there will be more help on this subject as time goes by. As I have said, we have a Jayco 20 foot starcraft that we love to bits (although I broke it last trip).

Im sure there are people on here who have a swift, you may want to put a post on show me your rig blog on this forum.

Good luck and safe travels

hi bee, and welcome,

if you are unsure of the history of this van the first thing I'd do, if planning to be on the road for 5 years, is to get the wheel bearings checked and repacked with proper bearing grease...

if you are planning to free camp then I'd recommend a "solar system" with a couple of batteries and also a diesel heater that can run off 12 volts

one of the biggest problems on the road while free camping is water... and that's assuming you have shower, toilet etc?

we have 160 litres of water and it last 2 of us for 3 days.. and that's not counting drinking water..

make sure you have stabiliser bars while towing to keep the vehicle and caravan level and stable..
