can anybody tell me if a washing machine ( top loader) will work off a 600watt inverter. We are looking at having a washing machine but don't really want a generator . Will this work
We have a 600w inverter and it powers our small top loader machine , no problem. The solar panels ( 2x80w) have the batteries ( 2 x 120amp hour units) fully charged on a fine day within an hour. We have everything checked by an electrical engineer as a precaution and it is all perfectly safe. I suggest you try it and see what happens.
David
We have used it to power our little Coleman twin tub which we carried around with us and it worked fine but we are looking at having one installed in the van, so this is what I am wondering about. We will have 170 solar on the roof and two batteries and possibly a portable panel as well
Check how your inverter is rated. Some are rated at a say 600 W and when you look into things their continuous rating may only be 350 - 400 W. Others will be rated at 600 W and also have a peak rating that is 750 W or more. If you have one with the latter style ratings you should be OK. If it has the former type rating then you will probably be in trouble. Remember "oils an just oils."

Hi. We have a Companion twin tub that runs off our 1200/600 inverter. It runs fine and doesn't overheat the inverter. I hope that helps. I don't know if it will start your front loader. Try it. The worst it will do is switch off. Happened to us with a toaster.
Hi all, our washing machine for the bush is a wide topped plastic drum with lid, and a plumbers plunger (with three holes cut into the rubber with a hole saw), and an extended handle of plastic. All from Bunnings. Works a treat and doesn't use much water. Great to have it anchored in the van while travelling too (lid on tight of course!). Everything washed when you pull up! Nice that you are thinking of running the machine on an inverter I must say. We were camped next to a couple at the Lloyd Jones Weir near Barcaldine who ran their generator for hours using their little twin tub. They could only fit in a few items at a time. We had our washing done by hand, pegged out and nearly dry by the time they finished!! The exercise you get on the plunger is good too.
Brownie, most people would be happy to wash by hand if they were still capable of wringing it out. My cook would be happy hand washing if she could source a small self contained spin dryer. I think it's the spinner is what attracts people to install washing machines.

Peter I think you are quite right. The wringing is a chore but we manage with Pauline holding one end while I do the wringing. Not to bad, and you have to earn that beer somehow! Maybe we should design a spinner and make a few bob! Cheers, Brownie
My Morningstar Suresine 300w inverter also easily powers our Lemaire washer no problem, biggest issue free camping or off road is a reliable water supply.
we have plenty on board but some would struggle at up to 60ltrs a load of washing.
I have a Lemair washer too. It is light and small and the plate says it draws 200 watts. It is OK for one person since the load is limited to a cuppla towels and a teeshirt. I average a load a day.
