We have a ceramic heater with a thermometer and it heats ok but does not shut down as well as i would like it to

so i thought is there such a thing as a thermometer plug, we could plug our heater into,that we could set as a high heat to switch off and a low heat setting to turn it back on

sounds like your heater is a bit dodgy Cowboy..

in the past I have used convection heaters in caravans with great success as they are totally noise free and have a great thermostat that turns on and off to keep the correct temperature..

cheap as chips too..

You can buy adjustable thermostats on Ebay that could be adapted (probably illegal) but the bottom line is that it's probably cheaper and easier to buy a new heater with an adjustable thermostat on it.

There used to be plug in thermostats like the plug in timers on the market but I have not seen them around lately. The alternative is something like this There are cheaper ones on the market with good thermostats in them.

Is it a fan assisted heater ????

What you want is a single stage heating thermostat.

you need to check the resistive/inductive load of the ceramic heater, I would think it is less than 10 amps if you are plugging into a 10 amp power socket.

There are a number of different types e.g. wall mounted or capillary type, depends where you want to locate the thermostat i.e. on the wall and wire back to the heater or mounted on the body of the heater. I would strongly suggest if you are not elect qualified, buy a new one.

If you want to keep the heater, get a quote from an electrician.
