A friend wants to rent my caravan (which has not been unregistered for 3 years) to use as a stationery spare room at his place for a couple visiting from oversees for 3 months. I would have to drive it from Grafton to Taree, a 4 & a half hour drive.
Would anyone in NSW be able to give me a rough estimate as to what the Rego & comprehensive Insurance would cost please? The caravan is the single axle 17 footer you see in my avatar photo
Cheers
Jon

Ring the RMS 132213 and ask for a price on a permit to shift a caravan... I know you will need a pink slip..
That's not a bad idea. I will keep it in mind but I'm not sure if caravans need blue slips after being off the road for so long. I will have to ring and find out and find out what they charge, if anything, for the permit.
Cheers

Your avatar does not show much, I can't read anything on the picture. What is the age of the tyres? If they are over 10 or 12 years one could blow in 4 1/2 hours driving. I have seen that happen when people have purchased older vans.
Contact your local registry to see if they can issue a permit to shift the van without a blue of pink slip. As Hylda&Jon suggested you may need a blue slip for a van that doe not have continuing registration, that's another thing you may have to check on.

The tyres have driven only from Perth to Darwin and across to the NSW coast then not used for nearly 3 years but some of the weight was taken off them by the jockey wheel and the winding legs.

Good luck with this H & J! The NSW motor registry has an amazing bunch of rules and procedures, and are not cheap! Hopefully the RMS folk in your lovely hometown will be helpful

Thanks! Amazingly enough, in regard to the Motor Registry, it seems to be a breeze to get a permit to tow the van from A to B. I don't even need a blue or green slip. All I have to do is download a form and fill it in stating the time and date I need to transport it (from 7 days to I can't remember how long as the 7 days was all I was interested in) and then post or fax it in, and that's it.
I haven't yet decided to do it that way but I probably will.
The Insurance, I may pay by the month and just stop paying after the 3 months are up when I return it home to Grafton
Hope all is well with you two
Cheers
Jon.
