A/C fuses

We have a 2007  Winnebago Freewind bought from original owner.

Our objective is 12 months on the road of which we have only done 2 days.

Several problems have reared up mainly with power which we sorted out ....I think......however now the Dometic Air Conditioner has decided we dont need it.....we do , desperately.

We cannot locate the Fuse Box to check it out.

Also, can a 12 volt Fan drain power quickly.  We had it on all afternoon into the evening when we ended up in the dark.

Power was restored next morning about 6.00am.    We have one Solar Panel on the roof.

Can anyone help out.

Firstly welcome to the forum..smile

Your A/C will be 240v only and would require you to be connected to power to run it..

My guess is that the 240v would only be protected by one RCD (Circuit breaker).. so if it has tripped then the A/C wouldn't work and IF it has tripped you need to find out what tripped it..cry

Yes a 12v fan could and would flatten a battery running constantly and dependent on the size of the battery the time would differ but it would still flatten the battery..

My suggestion to you is to take a day or 2 off now and familiarize yourself with your unit and everything about it so when something goes wrong you will have some idea where to start looking..

One of our member  (Aussie Paul) is doing just that and has just about pulled every last part of his rig apart so he knows all about it before he hits the road... A very wise manbiggrinbiggrin

Query re the Dometic A/C  Does it have any lights on the unit when you are connected to 240 Volt power.

If it does will the lights on the unit flash red, and if it does how many flashes.

Mine had two quick red flashes which meant that one of the two thermostats had failed and the whole unit will not operate.

It would need the thermostat changed.

Hope you get sorted out quickly

HI Allan

Welcome to the forum

More details would help

Solar panel size[Watts] , battery size[Amphrs]?

What were those other power problems ?

I assume you were not connected to mains power when the fan & 12V lights were lost????

AS the van is 2nd hand you should find out, asap,  how good the  house batterries are ,that means a capacity check .

It is quite posible they are old & have little capacity left

You should also find out ASAP how all the elecrics work

Did the 12V power simply come back after a bit of solar input, or running the engine??

As others have said the air con can only be run from 240V ,you need to be connected to mains power

I suspect that the batterries went so low, that a A low voltage cut out operated[to protect the batteries]

However even with it, the batterries could have short lives if they are  constantly reaching the stage of cutting out

.Did you get any sort of manuals or wiring diagrams,Winnebago did supply them.

Thank you everyone.

We have found the fault and discovered that a Fuse had blown which was labled TV and Aerial. No mention of A/C. However when this was replaced both TV and A/C roared into life. We had no idea why the TV wasnt working but that was a secondary problem to be sorted when everything else was OK.

Once again

Thank you
