Oh dear, poor little dog. What can you do? The owners of dogs who do things like this don't seem to be the type who accept responsibility for their dogs behaviour.
Thanks for concerns .thankfully the owners of the dog have paid vet bill and are very apologetic .It is one of those things but it as made us very cautious of other dogs .Hopefully our little girl will be ok with other dogs when she is better she is such a happy little social butterfly hope this does not change her.
Most unfortunate Trevor, as others have said, hope your little mate makes a full recovery.
Sadly large dogs that do this sort of thing are a direct reflection of the owners lack of responsibility and or knowledge, if people would only give their dogs some obedience training and teach them to socialise when pups this type of attack wouldn't happen.
Terribly sad to see that.

What gets me is the number of times I have seen people pull up at a park,
door open & out bounds a dog or 2. Then they are left to run about freely
while the humans set up their camp.
I agree Chopit I have seen that so many times. These people don't read the park policy all dogs on lead at all times.
We are not sure about her breed really she was abandoned at a caravan park to cut a long story short we are told by the vet a long haired chihuahua x with maybe a Tibetan spaniel and who knows maybe a bit of papillon.
I tell you these little dogs are little tough nuts she is doing remarkably well.Thank goodness.
poor little one, my own younger Whippet is scared of anything bigger than him...following 2 bad attacks within 12 months of each other, but they were not in CP's or camps they were in the suburb I lived in back in Darwin.
How did the dog come to attack your poor little girl.....? If I even see a dog off lead in a CP now I straight away ask the people (nicely) to put it on lead or put it away.
and yes I can see some Tibetan Spaniel there!
If you can find some bigger dogs that are softies and their owners are willing to help you out try and get your little one comfortable with them as soon as you can...both times Connor was set upon he was in Vets for a extended periods so by the time he came out and home I had missed the opportunity to do that, and after the 2nd incident he just decided that big dogs = vets = time away from 'mum'....and also = hurts..

The rotti that got her was in an annexe and not on a lead the night before I had been talking to the couple and they said the rotti is ok with people but not little dogs, so they knew that the park had a few little dogs so why did they not be more vigilant, the owner the guy I have heard since is really brutal with it punches it and has kicked it before smacks it hard with the end of the lead, I really can't blame the rotti the owners in my eyes are idiots.
My little one is doing ok we have to try and get her socialized again these little ones are tough cookies.
I can see why yours thinks big dogs means vet meas it hurts no wonder.
Now I'm starting to feel sorry for the rottie that did it! The poor thing wouldn't know any better, no dog should be treated so. Did you give the vet's bill to his owner?
Very sorry about your little dog, I have 2 big bouvier de flanders, they have never attacked another dog, some time ago i was on the field where all dog owners get with their dogs in the morning and new dogs quick socialise. Once i was on my own when a car came, parked and 2 dogs jumped out running growling and barking toward my dogs. I must admit I was nervous but as those dogs came close baring heir teeth my dogs just ignored them turned around and walked away. The owner of the dogs said "I take them to the other side, they come from a farm. I told her to leave them so they could socialise as my dogs ignored them, but she went anyway. this field where I and many other dog owners go is great and often more then 10 dogs at a time are running playing and happy. One lady suggested a xmas party for our dogs on 15 december. That is the way to go, and i will dress up my two big dogs. If the lady with the little dog lives in the Mundaring area WA I hope she can make it. Or anyone in the area. By the way My dogs always get attacked by the little ones, its called Big dog syndrome!

I too feel a bit sorry for the rottie also. I had a rottie x staffie, potentially a 32kg killing machine mix. But in 13 years he never hurt a fly and adored children. He was a spoilt, much loved mummies boy tho :) and well socialised from day one. Only time he lost his lolly was when a pit bull attacked my other dog and had her pinned to the ground while the owner watched, but he still didn't draw blood, just tried to defend her.
I hope the rottie owner you mentioned gets his karma
Thanks for all your concerns she is a lot better now .But she is nervous around some dog's and people. She as changed quite a bit but we keep reassuring her and hopefully we can get her back to her old self .

People who own dogs that do that kind of thing should be taken out and shot! We have had larger dogs (labs, borders, shepherds, and now kelpies) all our lives, and they have NEVER been let loose to do that kind of damage - we actually lost a border to a dog attack.

i keep all my dogs on a lead in caravan parks and at rest stops. Sadly others don't do this and I have had 2 instances where a loose dog attempted to attack one of mine. I now carry a big stick.

So sorry that your dog got hurt but glad that she has recovered well. It's sad that some owners don't take responsibility for their dogs, you can't really blame the dog, it's the owners that are to blame. We travel with our border collie x, who is quite large but super friendly, loves everyone and everything. Dogs need to be socialized when young.
Thanks for your replies .She is very slowly coming around to how she was before but if she sees a larger darker coloured dog she freaks out which is quite understandable.,she is frightened of noises behind her if we are walking .So when we are out it as made us both wary when we are out with her .As someone as said in a reply it is not the dog it is the owner who as not properly socialised their dog ,because we had a Rotti years ago and we knew how you had to be with a larger dog .But the owner of the dog the first thing he did was punch the dog in the head which doesn't say much for him .But hopefully Karma will come one day .But we can only hope that she will she will come back to as she was ,thanks for your thoughts.
All the best for your pooch's recovery. It probably doesn't need saying but some people should not be permitted to own dogs as the are mentally incapable of caring for same.

In the past week, we have been victims of 1 dog attack, and 2 close calls. We got away clean from the attack (full-grown cattle dog), which came racing out of a yard to attack our 4 month old pup. The first close call was a shepherd, off leash in a leash-only area, the woman had it by the collar, she was kneeling next to it and barely holding it; the darn thing actually dragged her forward a good foot, snarling and growling at our two.
The second was just outside the park, a big dog (no idea what breed, BIG) was off lead on the other side of the road, crossed ahead of its owner, and then started snarling and growling at our two. Owner wanders across the road, starts abusing us for our dogs barking at his dog and threatens to kill them if they hurt his dog (he was off his face).
This on top of a woman a couple of weeks ago who couldn't control her dog, which came racing up to ours, snapping and snarling, who then abused us for our dogs snarling at hers.
We NEVER have our dogs off-leash outside, even in the water they have the leads on, and we are between them and the shore; they wear CAUTION leads, because they are exciteable, and this tends to inspire the more responsible people to stand back a bit, to give us space to educate them on behaving. And still, we get sh*t from tossers.

Guess we're just lucky, have been traveling with with dogs for many years and never had issues like you describe, what part of the Autralia were you traveling in?
It is a very scary thing to have happen luck has it Chole is doing great still has and rightly so a issue with some dogs but that is understandable. I however do try and keep away for so e bigger dogs not because I think they are going to snarl or attack but just because my little girl can be a little unpredictable around them and that can set a bigger dog onto the defense. Anyway thanks to all the kind thoughts and she is doing great a cheeky little princess. Hahahhaa
People simply are not willing to be responsible for their dogs...poor little bugger...is she OK?
