I fitted a sail track right along the whole length of the van. Fixed it to the top of the cover strip over the wall/roof joint. (Had a professional do it actually - pop rivets & sikaflex)
I purchased a shade cloth screen that fits either there on the fridge side, or along the awning roller as a privacy/wind screen. May get a second one if it proves satisfactory.
Haven't tried it yet. Not been hot enough.

See photo attached for our screens. Unfortunately I don't have photos of all three screen up at the same time. The long wall can also be used on the annex side. We also have a small piece of shade cloth 2.4x3 metres which we use wherever it is needed.
We have a long wall which doubles as a carport or just protection from the western sun.
A Fridge vent screen - peg it out on an angle so as to allow the vent to breath.
A screen to protect our generator from bad weather when in use
These are all able to be attached by a sail track.
I fitted our track above the top outlet. Figured the more shade you can get on the side of the 'van the better for the fridge and if you are using shadecloth type material - the hot air will vent through it.

If you install the track immediately above the top vent you will obstruct the air flow somewhat. The heat from the gas flue could also singe the material. If you install the track fairly high above the top vent you should have plenty of air escape area to the sides of the awning.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
Look like fitting above the top vent is the preferred method.
I like the idea of the full length shade as well so will fit sail track alone the top edge.
Thanks again
Cheers
