Touring NSW

Hi

Wife and I arrive in Sydney Oct 9th and pick up camper on the 10th. We have 19 days to take a circular tour around NSW.

Not wanting to be fixed to a rigid timetable, I am reluctant to pre book any camp grounds, is this a good idea??

Thanks, Mark & Joan blankstare

Hi Mark & Joan , My wife are doing similar trip but mainly staying on the coast. We have found that since it is outside school holidays availability is very good. Hope this helps , enjoy your trip . Rod &Simone

I do both caravan parks and free/alternative camps but have never booked a CVP. I have always looked for a park preferably out of big towns etc around 2.00pm and so far never had a problem. I realise if it was long weekends or school holiday season that could be different.

Firstly WELCOME to the forum and enjoy your time in Australia

How far south, west and north do you want to go. Do you have any special places that you want to see and got to. Their are a lot of people on this forum that are very well travelled who can help you with places to stay when they know where you are planning to go. Jen

Firstly, Welcome (in advance to Aus).  There are no public (bank) holidays during your visit to NSW, so you shouldn't have any issues about getting sites at caravan parks.  Work with a rough itinerary, but be prepared to amend on the spur of the moment.  19 days may seem like a long time, but it will go pretty quickly.  (We left Mount Isa on 1st September, and are currently near Charters Towers - distance by major roads of 772km - but as we zig-zag, have covered about 1500 km)

Good luck and have fun in our back yard.

The Bathurst 1000 is on 10th, 11th & 12th Oct so there wont be any sites available within 50 klms of Bathurst over that week.

I think you will be fine. I hate to prebook. Lots to see and some lovely places on the coast as well as inland. Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for all your feedback. It seems that "take a chance" wins over rigid itinery. Not being city people we hope to leave Sydney and head for Broken Hill via Wagga Wagga, Hay and Mildura. Returning to Sydney via Cobar, Dubbo and Katoomba.
Temps here are dropping slower than usual is about 16c today and set fair for the next week or so

Hi Mark

A couple of sites for researching are www.visitnsw.com/Holidays and www.australia.com/explore/states/nsw.aspx . The Blue Mountains west of Sydney, wine-growing region of the Hunter Valley and the Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo spring to mind. Despite NSW being my home state (although I currently live in Queensland), sadly I never saw all that much of the state during my numerous interstate trips. As was mentioned earlier, the big V8 Supercar race is on at Bathurst on October 12 so accommodation in the area will be scarce. It's a lovely area with lots of history (my mother's paternal ancestors settled there from Bradford in the 1840s) so would suggest a stop there if you're returning to Sydney from the west at the end of your schedule. If you're a motor racing tragic like me a drive around the Mt Panorama circuit is a must - it's a public road when there's no racing and the view from the top is fantastic.

Welcome (in advance) and enjoy your stay

Joe
