We are currently in Perth for a month doing a house sit in Perth Hills in close proximity to the area damaged by the January bush fires. We have the van in storage at Advent Park for $3 a day. They also take cars $2- a day. I note with interest that there are several vehicles with rigs still attached/safety chains and all. I think the close proximity to the airport and the Office Manager indicated a city bus came past front gate on the hour.
However, last week we took a run up the Indian Ocean Drive (200klms) arriving at Cervantes to spend a few hours in the Nambung National Park checking out the Pinnacles. The following day moved on to Sandy Cape Bay recreation park which is about 15klms North of Jurien Bay and then about 7/8klms of good dirt road. Has a caretaker and O/N $15 max 4nights with drop toilets (In Camp books). This gave us the opportunity to unhitch the van and head to Lesueur National Park which is about 20klm on the link road between the Indian Ocean Drive and Brand Highway. a further 10klms of good dirt. Then 18klm of one way sealed road through the National Park. Entry cost is $12 or $6 if you have a concession( honesty box).
We have attached some photos to show the beauty of the wildflowers we saw in Lesueur National Park.
There are some beautiful flowers out at present. So many different flowers just in a few kms. We are just off IOD about 70kms from Wanneroo/Joondalup and we have at least 20 different ones on our little patch. Found another one yesterday that we hadn't seen before. Must remember to download the photos tonight.
Had some one say to us a couple of days ago how disappointed they were to see so few wildflowers, all they saw was smokebush!!. IF they had stopped their car and gone for a short walk thru any patches of bush on the side of the road they would have been amazed at how many there actually is.
When we were in the west last year, particularly South West, it was with great amusement when we would see cars parked up beside the road, passsengers standing in the bush, heads down, b*ms up. No guessing what they were doing. Always a good indication of one of those illusive orchids that you don't see from the road.
JohnR, we did the drive you mention last year after house sitting at Yanchep, and Geraldlton. Loved it.

DUNMOWIN is no longer on the road and still DUNMOWIN!
Sufil's property does indeed have some lovely wildflowers - I think we may have been a bit early, but still saw some terrific flowers.
Have since been travelling round, and have seen a lot more - including the elusive wreath flower!
One thing I find amazing is the roughness of the terrain where you see the most amazing flowers, bushes etc. Wreath flowers only grow in disturbed soil - i.e. freshly graded or burnt land - isn't that wonderful?

Went up that way a few weeks ago. Saw the Wreath Flowers and then camped a few days at Ellendale Pool. Great spot for $5 per night and about 40k from Geraldton.
