Thanks for your concern guys. A small typhoon passed to the east of us on arrival last Tuesday but it is now far away to the north past Taiwan. I see on the news Manila copped it with a lot of flooding. They bring the flooding on themselves. They throw all their rubbish in rivers and drains, which become blocked. Result....massive flooding. The Country gets around 12 to 20 typhoons annually, many of them are minor. The Typhoon I was almost caught in at Tacloban last year was one of the biggest ever recorded with over 6300 deaths. As an old aviator I check the weather twice daily, especially in this country. If a big one is on the way, I'll know about it and I'll be off like father's trousers !!! biggrinbiggrin

Come back, BG, Come back!!!!! We only got a drought here.

Edit... My apologies to those living in drought-stricken areas, its certainly not "only a drought"

It is unfortunate Gerty, those that need it are doing it tough, whereas people here are flooded out from too much rain...

Happens every year !! the people are longsuffering and just take it in their stride...it needs an education programme of gigantic proportions to teach the need for proper rubbish disposal...but it's really gone way beyond that now.
My wife (a Philipina) grew up in an area that had a swimming lagoon near her house...she used to swim there as a child....but now you can walk across it, bc it's so full of rubbish, there's no longer any water there.
It's an insoluble problem...and in fact, I think with the volume of water that comes down in a typhoon, you are going to get flooding, even if the drainage systems were completely clear of obstructions...I can't see it ever being any different.
Looking at the bright side...the politicians are getting rich from the money that should have been used for infrastructure, and at least it's warm !!

And there are still some absolutely gorgeous places to see in The Philippines..!!
