Towing with Jayco/Fiat Optimum

Has anyone towed a Suzuki Jimni with a Jayco/Fiat Ducato Optimum motorhome ? Rated towing capacity is 1200kg,Suzuki is about1000kg so I guess an A frame would be the way to go.Suzuki dealers in Adelaide have no idea if this is  ok but I'm sure I,ve seen them on the road.Would front wheel drive traction be a problem?   Cheers Noel.

Hi Noël

Wet tow a Suzuki swift on a hitch and go aframe behind our fiat . No problems don't no it's there .

To tow a jimmy you have to do a modification to the gearbox

Our fuel consumption increases from 10.8 to11.2

We tow our Suzy on the trailer   Suzy  895kg and trailer  300kg  = 1195 kg which meets the  towing capacity ...just another alternative...cheers Peter .KOO WEE RUP (6).JPG

In NSW they take the gross weight of the towed vehicle which includes passengers and luggage. My friend had to sell her optimum and buy one with a higher rated tow weight. But if you put it on a trailer and its total weight is below the limit its ok. Now work that out.

From what you guys are saying it looks like the Suzuki Jimni is not an option at 1000kg unless I can get an alloy trailer under 200kg.

No a Jimny definitely not an option if you have a 6 wheel Jayco similar to the above picture. You need to find a car with a GVM under 1200kg and if they want to be difficult that also includes the weight of the abar which is deemed to be part of the vehicle.
