It's hard to understand what motivates some people to hurt and kill animals. They are no better than this scum in Iraq and Syria who decapitate westerners for the thrill of it..

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

I've always wondered why "hunters" get a thrill out of killing animals. Doesn't this suggest a psychological problem? And if you do get a kick out of killing wildlife, should you be deemed responsible enough to own a firearm?

Any kind of cruelty upsets me too. I think it's an absence of empathy for other living things, animal or human. Maybe those people are born/made that way. Then again maybe empathy is a learned quality. I'm not sure.
I have been a hunter and fisherman since I was 9 years old - 55 years.
In all that time, I have never hesitated in killing an animal or fish that is recognised as normal food.
Always as quickly and cleanly as possible, and according to bag limits, sizes, and in season, as required.
I am proud of my accuracy with rifles and shotguns, and my ability to find fish where others cannot.
When I was first introduced to these pastimes by my Dad, it was always to put meat on the table, and help spread the budget.
Whilst I have been lucky enough to not have to worry about the budget so much in later years, I have never killed without the intention of eating the relevant animal.
That said, I absolutely despise the act originally posted in this thread, or any act that causes needless cruelty to animals.
Perhaps I should be let loose in the room with the low life that did this.
Sorry if my comments upset some of the more sensitive members, but killing animals for food is a fact of life.

I'm sure JRH feels the same way Peter, and that was what he meant not that food animals should not be killed, just needless cruelty to animals as you have stated. I know he is not a vegetarian although he is keen on drinks made with grains

No worries Vic. My post was not aimed at JRH, or anyone else for that matter.
Just trying to differentiate between killing food, and mindless violence.

Anyone who hurts or kills an animal deliberately needs to be publicly flogged until their back has no skin left on it.
Sorry Pal, you weren't so specific in your post above. Yes I kill fish, and have killed rabbits and roo's, because I enjoy fishing and used to enjoy hunting (been over 20yrs since I last hunted though) and any animals I have killed have been either food for myself or dogs.
Not trying to pick a fight, but to me, you just came across as a vegan in that post. Not that I have any problems with vegans, it's their choice.
I must admit though, I have derived pleasure from a perfect headshot on a bunny at up to 100M......
Ha Ha......JRH a vegan....... a meat eater for sure!
Pity there are some without going into detail who are cruel in the way they kill animals for food, needless to say they are ones we send live overseas. Not all though from what I have read.
