My health insurance covers Australia wide thank goodness. I would be very surprised if all health funds didn't do the same. Just give them a call suenray to double check and for peace of mind perhaps.

Sorry to digress little TAJ,

I was just talking to my good mate wombat and he reckons, don't worry about the ticket Rocket just get someone to put you in the box and chuck in the ocean. He reckons it would be something like a message in a bottle biggrin and much cheaper biggrin

Back to you TAJ.

TAJ - we were in Tassie for four months - Yeoeleven who was travelling with us, broke his ribs and had to go to the hospital in Latrobe for x ray etc., no problem, just rocked up at the emergency and they treated him very quickly - xray only, and sent off with advice to be careful. Plenty of facilities over there, no worries. I also attended a doctor's surgery for prescription, no problem, medicare card etc., and that was it.

You can get an extension to your current health insurance at the Tasmanian Embassy in your States capital city.
The same office issues the Travel Visa and stamps your Passport.

Welcome to our country - most of us speak English to some degree, so no real need to learn Tasmanian.

No that's the second head before they come back to Australia cos there is something in the water over there.

Sorry TAJ, looks like you have woken the local natives over in Tassie and others.

Hi Ray,

Life's too short to let it upset you my friend. You mentioned your question was answered early so I think everyone just had a bit of lite hearted fun with the thread, no offence was meant, I know I didn't mean any.

Did you ring your Health Fund and did you get the answer you wanted from them? I hope so.

Enjoy Tasmania when you get there Ray as it is a great place and well worth the visit, especially if you stay for a while. It makes the cost of getting there a little easier to deal with. I personally love the Convict Trail and the West Coast.

TAJ

I cringe when I read how someone like you is treated when they ask a question on this forum. The answer above is rude and the other smart-arse replies and comments are pretty low also.

As you have found out there are nice members and not so nice. You only have to read the rude smart-arse replies you got to sort them out. When Cindy gets around to it she will delete this thread but meanwhile you have been hurt and I am sorry to see this.

If you need some extra protection for yourself or your vehicle ( read Frangapinis post and see what has happened to her ) I suggest you talk to a travel agent or your State road service ( NRMA in NSW ) and see what kind of travel insurance is available in Australia.

The only extra cover you may need is travel insurance. The tasie ferry mob used to offer it. There are two types of fare you can select from. One is a very flexible fare and the other is fairly fixed with penalties for changing things. Travel insurance is cheap for a trip to Tasmania, possibly cheaper than the fare differences. When booking far ahead things may change medically and you have to cancel altogether. If you have travel insurance and events occur that would be covered by their cancellation provisions then the insurance would be good value.

Since when has Tasmania not been a part of Australia ?  Anything that applies in other states should also apply in Tassy.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Tasmania have basically adopted the Australian Road Rules. I have posted the links on another thread http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=51933&p=3&topicID=58472957.
