I have been talking to a couple of big 4x4 accessary suppliers and fitters about fitting a duel battery system to my Colorado. If I decide to go down that road so to speak.
Number one, lets say (A) said it can't go under the bonnet as the computer is in the way so the second battery must go in the tub section. I have no problem with that anyway.
Number two, lets say (T) said they just relocate the computer to the side with a special kit without disconnecting anything to fit the second battery under the bonnet next to the original battery.
I asked if it affects the warranty and was told no. Interesting. I might just give Holden a ring and see if that is correct.

I did look into putting an additional battery under the bonnet on mine too ..
Yes .. it can be done on mine .. but no mention was made of the computer situation .. maybe they are in different locations on each vehicle type.
The battery can be bought on Ebay for $255.00 .. but I think that was a little expensive for a 55 ah battery .. and I would anticipate something of much higher storage too .
.. yep .. I'd be putting it in the back too if I went ahead with it ..
Mine is in the tub, I used the battery out of my van 105Ah with a Projecta Isolator, as this second battery runs my Engel 40ltr Fridge/Freezer. No problems putting in there, did all the wiring myself so only had to buy the wire, 100amp CB and the Project Isolator and a socket for the Engel plug. I used BS dual core wire and from the isolator to the Engel 8BS dual core. My battery is right up the front of the tub across the back wall.

Hello doug
I put my battery in the tug in the back corner in a large battery holder and screwed it to the bottom of the floor
You are better getting a dc-dc charger, preferably a redarc 1225 or 1240 as these can have a solar panel hooked up to them
Make sure you have heavy wire
I run my waeco from this battery and also have an anderson plug which charges the house batteries when driving
I have full river 100 amp hour deep cycle battery
Ken
The Projecta Isolator, isolates the main battery until is charged then it switches over and lets the charge go to your second battery. The good thing about the Isolator is if your main battery is flat you can over ride the system and start the vehicle from your second battery. I have a DC/DC Charger in my van that is plugged into my ute so I can charge my van battery while I am driving or if I have pulled up for a few days and the Solar has not put enough charge in I can just hook ute up and let it run for a while to help boost the charge. Either system would work just up to you what you want to do.
I've got the second battery inside a box in the tub of my Colorado, with a Redarc isolation relay up front. The Engine bay is too crowded and too hot for a second battery to live too long.
If I do fit a second battery I already have one and it will be fitted in the tub with a duel DC - DC charger etc so I can have a Solar Panel hooked up as well. I fitted racks to the top of the Collie for that reason. I am thinking of maybe just isolating the second battery as well.

I read somewhere that deep cycle don't like heat and shouldn't be mounted under the bonnet. My knowledge is minimal and I don't know how correct this is as lots of my mates mount their dual battery in the engine bay and I've heard no complaints. Thankfully there's no room under the bonnet in my tug so mine is mounted in a specially made tray below the boot level. I run an Engel.
The Std battery is deep cycle, I fitted an AGM battery in the tub and they definitely dont like heat, which is another reason to put it in back, apart from no room up front that is. I can leave the Anderson plug connected and it backs up the one in the Van. Plus it drives the hard mounted compressor I've got in the back for all the tyres, and I have another outlet for a fridge and two general purpose outlets. .
why in the hell are you guys fitting all these extra batteries?
Only thinking and getting prices at this stage Blue but don't think I will go through with it. I have converted a few things to have Anderson Plugs on the end and can run them from the AP on the back of the tug now.

Mine runs the winch when i need it, my engel is in the vehicle running 24/7 and sometimes I run 600W inverter for things like drill and angle grinder battery chargers. Ah yes, and is very handy to use the override function to jump start the vehicle when I forget to turn my headlights off..
Everyone has different set ups for some reason, mine is that I have had a Trailblaza 60 litre Fridge in my 4x4 vehicles for 23 years as we used to go camping with our Children all those years ago.
Since then have set up the Cruiser Ute for extended camping trips away from the van. I also have on board compressor fitted for Tyre repairs with 150 watts of Solar on the canopy to keep the fridge going.
So an extra Battery is essential for these reasons.
- Have a small Fridge Freezer that lives in the vehicle, for when you--
>> Go shopping to Store the cold Food..
>> Camp away from the Van and want to have Cold Stuff..
>> A Spare Battery that can if the system is setup right allow you to JUMP/Start the Vehicle is the Main Start Battery Dies...
It might sound like a Pain to do, but if any of the above is what you want to do.. You are better off with than Without..
Juergen..
Psst Dougwe if any of the above is what you are thinking of doing.. it's not that hard.. and if you add a solar panel or 2 you could even do extended trips away..

Sorry for the delay in getting back Snow. I just might sit in the back stalls for a while and see how things go without the second battery for a while. I can always add later if needed.
