South West W.A. under water

Roads closed after flooding in WA's South West

Updated about an hour agoFri 29 Aug 2014, 8:49pm

Roads have been closed due to flooding and a river burst its banks in Western Australia's south as a storm front swept across the region.

Donnybrook is on high alert after the Thompson River breached its banks, rising 3.5 metres in 24 hours.

The Preston River at Donnybrook has risen to 4.5 metres, up from 2 metres on Thursday, and approaching the major flood level of 5 metres.

About 100 properties have been affected by road closures, with the shire of Donnybrook-Balingup urging residents to find alternative routes.

The Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup has warned drivers that the bridges on Bendall Road and Argyle Road are completely under water.

Sandhills Road has also been closed.

Goodness me KJ, what are you doing over there in the wild west? I thought it was the wild west cos you all play cowboys and indians but now I'm starting to think the weather gods have joined forces with those nasty indians confusesmile

Take care all in the west and please don't take any risks in flooded areas.

Be a bit on the soggy side for awhile, hope they don't get too much more until the flooding subsides.

For those who are not aware, Donnybrook is one of WA's main apple growing areas, also has a great RV transit park in town near the oval, powered and individual ensuites in a separate building for those who want them.  Managed by the BP in town on the main drag.  Not sure is that is under water at present.

Balingup has cheap powered sites around their oval too (managed by a local deli in the main street at the northern end of town) but it is down on a low area next to a creek so imagine that will be flooded....

All us Cowboys here in the West are having a ball,  chasing all those dirty big black indians ( clouds )  over East,

So you had better head for the fort ( high ground ) before they arrive, Dougwe . biggrin

We have ( with the permission of Wombat )  even got the Nullarbor Nymphs dancing around the totem pole and swinging their buckets.

Now that has given poor old Vic41 a new lease of life, he was last seen catching up to the Nymphs, with a couple of rain coats in his hand and yelling,     I only want to cover them up, winkwinkwink

"OH Well" another day has dawned and the rain has stopped. for the moment, still very overcast,

a bit like Wombats face, he hasn't seen his Nymphs since Vic41 took off after them,

I reckon he has herded them up to Seabird for the G.T.G. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

"Hell" I sure hope the Quack lets me go, if only to meet the Nymphs,

K.J.

No way I could catch them KJ, but if I did it wouldn't be to put rain coats on them wink

I thought I might try the old chestnut calling out to them "Catch me and you can kiss me....oooops I tripped", but somehow I don't think that would work at my age no no no

Be great if you could get up to Seabird, even as a day run, it will be nice to catch up and Wombat did say the twins would be disappointed if you aren't there aww

Weather looks like it will be nice and sunny for the GTG over that weekend. smile
