I believe it doesn't matter how old your trailer/van is (above 1.5 tonne, I think) in NSW, but if you have a break-away system fitted, it is subject to an inspection ..
My NewAge Van is being inspected on the 10th of next month for its 1st renewal .. and that's by a heavy vehicle inspection station as they are the only ones qualified to do it ..
If your van is due for rego renewal you can go to the RMS, up to 3 months before it is due and get the paperwork and get the pink slip sorted if it is needed.
Unless things have changed a pink slip isn't required till the van has passed 5 years old.
Cheers
David

I can second that motion. My van is 2.8tonne has a breakaway system and is 4 years old this october. No inspections required till the 6th year as the first five are exempt.

The pink slip inspections, we were told, have to be done no more than 6 weeks from renewal date.
Its difficult when you are out of the state, but I think bigger places might have the appropriate paperwork. Can one get a list of out-of-state inspection stations?
For your info .. I'm currently in the Tamworth area. I took it on to get my rego renewed as early as possible so that I can have more freedom to move over the next 14 or so months ..
Even here at the rego centre the general knowlege on this topic was rather vague .. I simply followed the advice of one of the more learned ladies who seemed to know exactly what I needed to do ..
My new tug didn't need an inspection (but not forgetting a CTP Green Slip was needed) I was able to renew that rego within the 3 months prior to its due date (in November) ..
The lady was also able to bring up the appropriate inspection stations where I might get the Caravan inspection done locally. I went and saw one of them and booked it in for the 10th of September ..
The next day, and with the inspection completed (ok I hope), I will be able to then renew that rego as well, as that also falls within that 3 month renewal period .. (early Dec for the Van)
If I have any hiccups at all here with my Van Rego renewal, I will post details on here .. if nothing posted then assume all progressed as expected ..
Hi. If under 5 years old then no, except for the first rego. You then have to have it inspected every year after it turns 5. That applies to all passenger vehicles and light trucks which happens to include motor homes and vans. I believe however that it does not include caravans or braked tandem axeled trailers.
we purchased all of the above new and we have to have the trailer inspected every twelve months.
I've now renewed my first registration for my Caravan ..
I was sent by the RMS in Tamworth to get an inspection on my Van as it has the break-away system and batt monitor installed ..
When I went in today to get the Registration paid, I asked the lady there .. "could she please print out a copy of the renewal notice that would have been sent out" .. had I not renewed the Registration early .. (I had to do this before I did the rego and lost the opportunity)
It clearly stated .. "Inspection not required" ..
The lady was also confused so then made a phone call to an "appropriate source" ..
She was then told I didn't need to have this inspection .. Like a car, my Van was good for the first 5 years without a need for inspection ..
so ..
anyone with NSW Caravan registration that has the break-away and monitor system fitted, does NOT NEED an inspection for renewal in the first 5 years ..
What is stated by the RMS on the net in relation to "regardless of date" is obviously not correct !
So don't go and attempt to do the right thing (like I did) by what it says on the net .. simply go by what's written on the "renewal" notice ..
