Travelling from Bathurst to Port Stephens

Has anyone travelled from Bathurst to Port Stephens that can give a run down on what the road conditions are like and which is the best way to go.

Thanks Domo

From Bathurst to Sofala, Ilford then Kandos, Rylstone and follow through to Sandy Hollow all tar road and windy in parts but very scenic.
The Main rd here is called Bylong Valley Way. When you get to the T intersection at Sandy Hollow turn right and head to Denman then head toward Muswellbrook and turn right onto the Golden Hwy, This will lead to the New England Hwy then turn right and head for Newcastle and follow the signs to Port Stephens, Nelsons Bay Area.

Enjoy you drive.

Cheers Allan

Thanks for your information Allan we are heading off in September and hopefully enjoy the scenery and not too winding hilly roads.smile

The shortest way is through Sydney.   However if you look on the LHS of that map you will see 3 suggested routes including Alan's one. If you go Alan's router there is a range in the Bylong you have to go over. The gradients are not as sustained as the ones over the Blue Mountains but the curves on it are tighter.

If you are wanting to dodge hills then go through Cowra, Dubbo and into Hexham via the Golden Highway. That way Fitzgeralds Mount will be your biggest hurdle.

Road conditions on all those routes are fairly good. You are likely to strike some broken bitumen patches on them all.
