Fuel Pump Warning

In some locations Caltex have included a fourth nozzel on the diesel pumps which is confusing the location identification of the real diesel hose The new units are labeled in orange and operate the same as a normal diesel pump having the same lift to activate pump mechanism . The handle signage reads Not Diesel Not Petrol it is a 70-80% blend of ethanol . Most drivers see the Diesel and go for it before they read the entire sign .Reports have come to notice of people using this in diesel vehicles and only traveling about a "K "or two before the vehicle stops, just like when you put ULP in a diesel costing big bucks to repair or throw on the scrap heap . Just take note and don't take it for granted that the normal pump locations we have become a custom to is where the real diesel is .

Hope this saves people the hassles that come with putting the wrong fuel in their diesel tug

Thanks Wombat.  I'll be sure to check properly next time I fill up.

Cheers,

Sheba.

My son Michael warned me about this the other day, he said it's called EFlex or E85. He told me not to touch it under any circumstances.

Thankyou Wombat280, Even though I have been filling buses and coaches with diesel for more times than I can remember I am new to filling my new tug with diesel so double checking before I pull that trigger, I might have to triple check.

Thanks for the heads up Wombat.

FYI Dougwe E85 is ethanol based ulp mix I believe 85% ethanol and the rest ulp. As ethanol comes from sugar cane, i think, its meant to burn a bit greener, some manufacturers ban its use in their cars.

Safe travels

Theres very few cars in Australia capable of running on E85, & they use upto 25% more fuel than if running on petrol.

The much appreciated warning was about DIESEL though not petrol. I was unaware they are now mixing diesel with ethanol. So I spose my question is still, what is diesel mixed with ethanol actually used for/with if the warning is now out and about?? I am not be silly, just a question. Mmmm I must be sick.

Doug, my understanding is E10 is the one with petrol and E85 is the new one with diesel. I might be wrong on that. But the E85 is the one Michael txt and warned me not to touch having a diesel vehicle. He said it's ruining a lot of diesel motors.

Some GM Commodores can run on E85 . It works best on forced induction petrol engines..
Tmk some ethanol is added to diesel ? But not as said diesel to some ethanol ..
Ethanol burns way cleaner and IS a green fuel ..
I run 50/50 mix water injection on my turbo diesel as it has no inter cooler.
Petrol engines can use it but requires tuning .. Yes 20% more fuel but forced induction engines make more power on it so it neutralises with less throttle..

Not sure what it's used for but the new pump configuration appears to now have the diesel hose relocated from the front panel where it always has been to a location hiding on the end panel hence the confusion unless you have an eye ball on the game . Most diesel fuel has a % of ethanol up to about 10% . They did carry a warning when it first came out but as the ethanol suppliers could keep up the supply there was a period when there was no ethanol content in any fuels. Don't tell the Dark Greens for fear of a mass march of greens or public floggings of servo mangers

Introducing Bio E-Flex - Caltex's new high tech fuel for tomorrow's cars

Caltex Australia is today launching Bio E-Flex, an ethanol-based fuel designed for use in Holden's VE Series II Commodore flex-fuel vehicles to be released later this year. Bio E-Flex is a new choice for motorists, which is better for the environment and Australia.

The motor in Commodore is the same used in other GM cars in Brazil where ethanol is used big time ..
Usually higher compression and more ignition advance can be run.

Hi all. E85 is 15% ethanol and 85% ulp. I hope this clears it up for you.

Errrrrr sorry, but that is wrong.

Read the Caltex information provided in an older post above, and follow the link.

The fuel being discussed is 85% Ethanol, 15% petrol.
