Yes we are, funny the story comes out of Tazzy not many of us from the big Island (as they refer to us), take the trip across the straight as the bloody fare on the ferry is just over the top. You would have to spend several months there to make it worth while. I believe if the Tazzy tourism mob put some pressure on the ferry mob to reduce the fares a bit there would be a big influx of people and money to a state that needs a boost.
Cheers

I am from Tassie and one thing you will never see is cheap fares across bass straight to bring more tourists here ,(that takes brains to think like that )and our polies don't have any on ether side of the house
Thy get free travel, so it don't hurt them if fares are expensive
We spent 15 months in Tassie from 12/2011 to 3/2013, fluked a house sit at Acton park near the airport but lived in van,House too big just maintained property.
I had fitted the Truma Air Heater in Cairns and it was worth its' wait in Gold, Great heater it makes staying/camping in COLD Weather a more comfortable experience.
We did a bit of Flathead Fishing at (Dodges Ferry), Trout at (Arthurs Lake, Lake Rosebury/Mackintosh/Plimsol), and Tuna fishing off St Helens. Also hooked a very large Atlantic
Salmon in Lake Rosebury as the locals say they transfer some of the breeders there that are too large too sell.
Caught it using a 20 yr old Red Barra Lure and caught a Brown Trout next day with same lure and tasted fresh 2kg Brown Trout, very nice.
We experienced the top of Mt Wellington at least a dozen times mainly when Snowing and/or blowing at 30 kmh at - 20 degrees sometimes, Fantastic experience with the Locals.
Went swimming 1/2 doz times just for the hell of it in the Tasman Sea. (Very cool). Also heaps of Beach fishing/camping.
Also travelled 5000 kms around the island and with friends for local knowledge still didn't see it all, Can't wait to return there in a few years.
We met heaps of wonderful and friendly Tassie people, some are long lasting friends from previous acquaintances in 2002 Cania Gorge NQ.
Absolutely enjoyed our whole Tassie experience and can't wait to return in a few years again for an extended stay.
So the cost then was $1100 to Tassie and $960 return well worth it for this time span as far as we were concerned.
