Quick trip to outback Qld

Hello again fellow Nomads.

I have finally got SHMBO to embark on an extended road trip..... 4 weeks without 5 Star accom.

To the point of this enquiry.

I am wanting to spend most of these 4 weeks west of Toowoomba, North of the NSW Border and south of Mt Isa.

What, in your experienced opinion should one NOT miss, and what should I not waste any time on??

I am of course talking of site-seeing stuff, things to do, things to see, etc.

I will be leaving on October 8 2014, and returning to Sydney around early November.

I am truely interested in any experienced comment.

Many thanks, and much gratitude, KB

Hi KB,

Carnarvon Gorge and the Mt Moffatt section as well is a good place to start, Longreach if you like that sort of stuff and if you get as far north as Hughenden Porcupine gorge is worth while.

Carnarvon Gorge (walking), Charleville (unusual and historic things to see, the bilby sanctuary, astronomy experience, couple of pleasant caravan parks just out of town); Sapphire/Rubyvale area (gemfields - buying buckets of wash and maybe getting sapphires from them, mine tour, quirky way of life); Barcaldine (superb old buildings, Tree of Knowledge memorial); Longreach (Stockmans Hall of Fame, Qantas museum); Tambo (teddies).

If your into hot spring baths , Mitchell has a very clean hot pool at the local swimming centre. Good caravan park on eastern side of river, ensuite available and just a walk across the bridge to the hot springs
