Interesting Vic - hope it is ok by the time we get there!!!!!!
I still wouldn't catch fish there though! I prefer Cervantes next coastal town south, cheaper CP if staying in one and quieter....very few shops though from memory...
Cervantes is certainly the quieter of the 2 towns, Cervantes has a general store, a takeaway, a road house and Post Office/newsagency/hardware/ fishing gear and a bottle shop. Pub is closed. Jurien has a fairly big shopping centre, IGA,banks etc, a pub. We prefer Cervantes to Jurien ,way quieter!! and the fishing off the jetty is good as is beach fishing. You can launch your boat of the beach at Cervantes too.
The fish kill at Jurien seems to happen every winter on varying scales depending on the weather. They really need to do something about the harbour clogging up with seaweed which is causing the problem. There is bound to be a simple remedy but no one has come up with anything as yet.
We spoke with friends here in Shark Bay who came through Jurien several days ago, they said the smell was unbearable so moved on. He said there was literally thousands and thousands of mulies (sardines) littering the beach and rotting away.

I think it was Cervantes that had a bowling club with locally caught fish and chips, visitors welcome, the CP owner was on the committee there and also encouraged visitors to go there. (greens had some synthetic and some proper grass last time I was there). You do not have to be a bowler to go there, they just get you to sign the visitors book.

We are due there in a week or so. All being well it will have cleared by then or we may just go to Cervantes instead. We are currently at Exmouth.
