We're at the Apex Riverside Park in Longreach next to the very muddy and fish free Thompson River.

One of the nicest places we spent time at in our Australian travels.

Nothing better than in the early morning floating down the warm stream on one of those foam noodles at a leisurely pace with mist still hanging in patches to give it an ethereal beauty, passing narrow banks lined with reeds, pandanus, palms and ferns then, wearing a pair of goggles and a snorkel we would do it again but this time we would this peer down into the crystal clear water totally absorbed in the underwater scene that presented itself. It was like floating over a lush valley with mysterious caves set into its sides and golden rays of sunlight filtering through the warm clear water lighting up clouds of tiny golden fish and the beautiful trails of water reeds. When we got real lucky we spied the odd tortoise and even a water monitor saw fit to drift past us

Pure bliss floating.gif

Hell it was $7PP in 2011. How that be justified. Up at Bloomfield supposed to pay $10 I think (2012) just to walk up the rover bed to see the falls! Now $12 pp to watch whales swimming in the ocean at the Nullabor.

Is this like "where are you now" type of thing . We could get Cindy to do a sticky on it.

Anyway we are at Old Onslow WA, on the banks of the Ashburton river - a great spot - there is a WelcomeRest Stop about 5 or 6k up the road, with a toilet and dump point, next to the old prison and police station - maps available at the visitors centre in Onslow.

As one ranger told me many yrs back; they dont want us in the parks.

Their constitution states that parks are for the people.

Q; just which people????????????

yeeeh, Katherine Gorge - to camp, $19.00 per person per night unpowered, nice shady sites, but they don't seem to realise that we want the sun for the solar, so we don't have to pay $44 for powered site,
