In Wall Appliance Vent Securing

Had the van in for a routine fridge service and they removed the external vent grill , in do that they broke the retaining clip.

Got it home and noted the grill wasn't sitting flush with the van wall  checked it out and found a broken clip.  No problem I'll dive into town and get a replacement  NO No they don't have any but they are coming in Monday, thinking $1.50 -2.00 each .  Monday I'm in there and they have them,  thank goodness I took a seat while waiting  a simple clip which I could have replaced with a S/S self tapper for less than $2.00 cost  $5.00 each in plastic .  The trap is to unlock the grill the clip turns anti clockwise .  Because the clip secures from the leading edge  if it doesn't lock in you run the risk of the wind grabbing the grill and pulling it out  and down the road it goes at terminal velocity.    New Grill $48.00

Remember anti clockwise 1/2 turn  to unclip to break it try going clockwise  and you will succeed for sure

I've had to replace a few of those clips over the years. The absurd rip off price they charge is daylight robbery. I take the top and bottom vents off whenever I stop to allow better airflow to the back of the fridge. I also have a small computer fan to help remove the hot air from the rear of the unit. Unfortunately, when you constantly remove the vents it's easy to break off the tiny clips that keep them in place. Why they wouldn't have originally made them out of steel, only one reason springs to mind.

Guess I'm lucky, both our vents are doors with locks and slide catches to allow different fixed opening positions.

Mike were always coming loose. I would see them flapping in the side mirror..
Ended up adding a screw to each corner.. hasn't been a problem since :)

It wasn't the screw connecter thing but the other end popping out leaving the screw connector as the only thing keeping it connected to the motor home.
