A few years ago I did the Ghan gold class. It was very good, marvellous meals. Tea served to you in bed each morning.

I think you get a larger cabin and a double bed with superior gold class or is that platinum?
We travelled gold and it was very nice.

We did the Indian Pacific (1st class in those days) from Perth to Pt Pirie when I left RAAF Pearce in 1976. What a magic trip, my youngest daughter got measles and we had room service all meals, waited on hand and foot. Bloody great 3 day holiday. It wasnt bad for a LAC and his family.

Safe travels

No George - wasn't sick. Tea served early each morning into your cabin was part of the service.

Haven't done the Indian Pacific, but did Gold Class in Ghan a couple of years back. It was excellent. Having own little ensuite is good. The meals were brilliant. As well as one's own cabin, having the communal lounge adds choice.

We did the Ghan trip because the Driver wanted to. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it - and I now want to do the Indian Pacific!

With the Indian Pacific, before you decide whether to go E to W, or vice versa, check the timetables - there may be some sections you really want to see in daylight.

I did the Indian Pacific from Sydney to Perth then the Ghan from Darwin to Adelaide in February. I went Gold Class but in a single so shared the shower and toilet at the end of the carriages. I loved it and now want to do the IP again from Perth to Sydney. The carriages are the same on both trains and they just change the name on the outside depending on which train it is on.
