Golly gosh, this is testing the memory a bit, but will try. In NSW back then, we had a little pale blue Ford Prefect that my parents first started our travelling mainly north from Lithgow to Mooloolaba in Qld for holidays every May school holidays. The Rego no. was AUA-120. Now how's that's for my memory!! So to answer your question Woosy, I guess they must have paid registration, but where I'm not sure. I know we used to get our licenses from the Police - and I got mine in Jan. 1968. I didn't get it at my first attempt, New Year's Eve '67 - I forgot to take the handbrake off when I started off out front of the cop shop in Manly, then followed a bus doing a right hand turn in the middle of Manly, so no wonder I didn't get it then!

Now ask me what I did yesterday!!!! Can't remember!

I had my first car in the late 1960's. Don't remember having to pay rego but maybe my memory is shot

In Vic we had MRB motor reg branch and when we got our renewal you got a choice of Ins co,s to select as your 3rd party insurer .

I can't remember a time when you didn't have to pay Rego. on a vehicle.  In Qld. you either payed at Main Roads Office/Dept. of Transport, or if you were not close to one, you paid at the local Cop Shop, or Post Office.

These days, I pay mine Online.

Cheers,

Sheba.
