Matilda Crystal 3

Have a knocking sound from under the floor of my Matilda when I first move off, appears to eminate from the rear of the shower/toilet recess. Have checked everything imaginable and can find nothing loose or broken with the suspension or any other under floor components. My current plan is to wait till something gives or not. My only theory is that the lazy axel supension set up is just being noisy and settles down after a bit of use, as there is no discernable noise once we are under way and travelling. As with many of these types of vehicle they do tend to sit idle for longish periods.

Sorry, but what's a "matilda"? confuse

Could be anything from a broken weld, or joint in the chassis to a tail shaft universal on it's way out.

More info please biggrin

I think the OP is referring to a Matilda Motorhome.

This is the series motorhomes but are not manufactured any more.

Find out more about this Matilda Henry motorhomes & campers 2001

It sounds like a broken exhaust hanger somewhere, as you drive off the twisting of the motor could be causing the exhaust pipe to be hitting on a hard surface somewhere, check your exhaust mountings,or it could be a broken rear gearbox or transmission mounting, the mounting could be hard to find ,you would have to try and lift the rear of the gearbox with a steel bar to find out if it is the gearbox mounting ,hope this helps.

Thanks Dragonfly

I'd forgotten about this post and just this moment looked it up. Your comment relates well to my own thoughts and is something I will do, if this foul weather down here in Tas ever lets up.

The other comments are all relevant and I will follow those suggestions up as well, if the spraying is unsuccessful.

Regards alwon
