Read on another Forum tonight, that it is possible to have Pay-wave removed from Cards. Has any-one here had it done ? I'm going to ask my Bank tomorrow.
I have it on my credit card Sheba but find it is more 'Pay Hold' on top of the machine. I actually like it so will differ to most replies I should think.
So far so good.

My bank sent me a card with the chip in it, so I went in and said I didn't want it and the teller said no worries, just keep using the old debit card. Brenda

Cheers,
Sheba.
Lets know if it is possible Sheba, might differ with different banks.
I didn't ask for it on mine (debit card) but when I received my new card after the old one had expired it had it on it.
I've used it a couple of times, the banks guarantee to refund any debits if someone else has used it. I'm with Bendigo Bank.
You can get a printed receipt.
I reckon they are great. You do tend to get used to tapping it and when something is over $100 you have a hell of a job remembering your PIN.
I use mine all the time even for very small amounts like a few dollars at Maccas. The only time I use cash is at the couple of places I go that do not take cards
I suppose the only problem is if you lost your card and before you had a chance to cancel it anyone finding it (or stealing it) could have a ball doing the rounds in a short space of time buying things (food/good etc) under $100 from different places.
But the banks say they will refund any misuse if reported lost or stolen within a reasonable time, so a calculated risk but convenient.

Used my Pay Wave card twice today, one was at the chemist where the attendant there told me one of their customers had hers stolen from her bag, but did not realise it until later.
The thief had racked up $600 in one day with her card before she reported it stolen. Must of had a "big day out" a the owner/bank's expense, visualize nice meal somewhere, clothes somewhere, other goods somewhere, fuel, liquor shop somewhere etc, etc up to $100 per purchase.
I rang my bank and they said there was no limit on how many times it could be used during a day up to the $100 limit each purchase.
They also said it that Pay Wave could not be removed, suggested opening another account (mine is a debit account) and have some of your funds placed in that and do not carry both cards.
Their was also another type of card account that did not have the Pay Wave but could not be used for internet or phone banking.
Apparently in the case of my bank, Pay Wave is a MasterCard Product and comes with a new or renewed bank card with Master Card access.
I have a BOQ Visa Debit card Vic. Went in today, and was told that I need to keep the Pay-wave card for paying on-line with Pay-pal.
I was given another Card, [No Pay-wave or Chip], to use if I wanted to pay for groceries etc. Different No.'s to the other Card, and has eftpos written on it.
With my Debit Account (with Pay Wave) it is connected to credit (or debit if you like) and there are no bank fees (Retirement Debit Account) however if I use Eftpos I only get a certain amount of transactions free then charged a bank fee for the remainder.
I am with Bendigo Bank. It may be different with different bank accounts as mine uses MasterCard while others use Visa Card.
I think with the Pay Wave (it doesn't use signature or pin) any transactions on Pay Wave (if they have been used illegally) require you to prove you did not make the transactions yourself, not sure how you prove that though.
PS: My new card was posted to me before the old one expired, if someone had stolen my mail from the home letterbox they could have had a ball as I would not have known my new card had been stolen......looking into that to see if I can pick it up at the bank or might have to use a box number.

Thanks for the feedback on your bank Wombat, not very happy with the system though (whatever bank is using it) for those with limited funds to live on it could take months to recover any money taken out of your account.
The banks made a big song and dance about how they are phasing out signatures on POS terminals and you will only be able to use a pin to prevent fraud, then introduce something like this which is open to fraud without any proof on who used the account.
Sheba, not sure what I-view is but will try to find the program on the TV program site. Dam, I missed it, thanks for letting us know.
I am with Bendigo Bank, rang them today and am going to open a secondary account that does not have MasterCard/Pay Wave access on it and will just keep an minimum amount in the main (MasterCard) account. You can only access the funds on the secondary account via bank counter service or ATM etc.
You can use your main account online to transfer funds from one to the other each way and can use both if you have any automatic withdrawals or deposits you authorise for bills etc from either account by contacting the billing organisation etc.
I will still keep my main account with Master Card & Tap & Go (Pay Wave) Debit Card but It will only have limited funds in it.
