What are the defects?
Loose wiring at the appliance inlet connection can become detached and cause the chassis of the camper to become Live. Also there is damage to the insulation of the wiring near the socket outlet that can cause a risk.
What are the hazards?
A risk of electric shock exists if this defect is present.
I am not suprised that this has happened from what I believe these companys employ a licenced tradesman who supervises unlicenced installers that do the wiring and of course all this has to be done at lightning speed it is just a reflection of the electrical industry as a whole as my experience has shown that very little testing and compliance documentation is done and many electricians are not fully up with the wiring rules requirements, since I have bought a van and pondered retirement and installed an RCD unit on my van and carried out some mandatory testing to it as it is now quite a few years old it has brought to my attention the fact that there are many vans that may not have had any inspection or testing from new even if that is only a few years we must remember that this is a transportable structure and lots of movement takes place as we drive around, also there is no requirement to have any after new inspection and testing in the standards I guess the explosion in grey nomads has been overlooked and of course the gov licencing authorities does not care either. I have considered when I finally retire having a mobile compliance and testing service as I travel around . Its not a matter of if an electrical fault can kill you but when it will, yes I know a lot of people will say that I have had my unit for many years and not had a fault but is the electrical installation in good working order? It is my opinion that all these portable structures should be retested at least every 3 years I think so far it has been good luck not good management
I will leave you with a couple of thoughts
Is your RCD working correctly?
Have you had an Insulation test done on the wiring in the last 5 years
Is the main earth connection still sound
Well done marto1944 for bringing up such an important matter. Like you, I have little confidence in some of the people who work in the auto electrical trade. I made a number of efforts via these people to check our van some years ago and to this day, I still don't really have any confidence that everything is as it should be.
Please let me know when you intend to start your travels and I'd like to be the first on your list of appointments to have a thorough electrical check up!!!
Here we go again. Don't educate - Legislate. When are we going to take responsibility for our own actions? It was good when it left the factory. You know you, or someone else, has messed with it since then, so its on you to make sure its correct.
Get it inspected! Why do you need the government to tell you what to do?
But some how people just forget and as you probably noticed like me its not getting any better as I get older but it is just not us, I have experienced these habits in my young students but then again they are just too busy with social media hell we have bred a bunch of techo morons just watch them go flatout no matter where they are, we even need the police to have blitzs in sydney on these idiots as they just wander across the crossings and get run over. I like your idea of education but it aint going to work maybe it should be in a rego check I would certainly like to hear the views of others
