When theres no mobile signal....

Most caravan parks and Nation Park campgrounds have a normal phone box for the use of their campers, and nowadays phone boxes are operated using a prepaid card, not coin-in-the-slot jobs any more. We found when the office was closed you couldn't buy a card, therefore no phone calls!

I'd recommend everybody carry a phone card if you are going to be in an area with no mobile coverage.

Good advice, Gerty, the only pitfall with this is that they carry an "expiry date".  we bought 2 x $20.00 cards when we did the Oodnadatta Track, and only used about $10.00  Went to use it when we were in Karijini NP, only to find they had expired last November.  Complained to Telstra, they did re-imburse us, but they seemed to miss the point - that they do expire.  Even when we were in Derby, about to do the Gibb, we went to the PO, the ones they had there only had two weeks left on them.

So, if you are carrying them, read the date on the card, and make sure you use them up before they expire.
