Know this sounds dumb, but prior to owning this new van, I had never cooked in a gas oven - always electric stoves at home, and in our last van, it did not have an oven, so I used to take our little electric oven with us for when I wanted to bake etc.
However, this new van does have an oven, and last week I tried it for the first time with baking some frozen crumbed chicken tenderloins. Mind you they were yummy, but I felt that although the packet said 220 deg for 22 mins. I left them in there for a good 30 mins. and still I felt they were not really fully cooked.
A lady I was chatting to at Happy Hour (as you do) said she was not happy with her oven, it was very slow compared with her oven at home, and was quite disappointed with it all. I love to cook/bake, but would like some advice please from our friends on the forum for cooking in a gas oven in our van.

Our van has a gas oven, I use if for baking cakes and slices, but not for the likes of oven fried chips, crumbed fish or chicken. I find the heat is not intense enough. I use our Weber as an oven in this case, and have had way better success.

I bought a thermometer from one of those $2 shops type places...cost me $4 I think.
It can clip onto the shelves. I also use it in my weber as I don't have the one with the gauge.
I can then turn the gas up to get the temp I want. Have to say I do need to turn it up to about 6 to get a decent heat. Cook everything in there...when not using the weber!

Yes, we have one of those too. Unfortunately it does not help get the oven up to temp.....

Thank you, I shall have to wait 'til our new cheapie shop opens to get a thermometer - Crazy Clarks closed down last week, but there is a new store opening there in a couple of weeks time!

Pejay, I've been perusing the used caravan pages (just dreaming) and it's amazing how many caravans have ovens but it's stated 'we've never used the oven'. I know our oven had only been used twice in 30years before we took it out. Hopefully the new ones are better.
I'm also looking around at a replacement for the Avan but not fussed if it doesn't have a oven as anything done in a oven can be done in the Q. So maybe think that way Pejay.

To true, David, we mainly cook outside, however 'his lordship' likes to have his cake and eat it too!! That is to say, he likes his little treats for morning teas - must post the recipe for the little cakes I made this morning.

I use my oven at least 3 times a week even though we cook mostly on the bbq and the outdoor 2 burner stove. But because I'm a bread addict I find that the oven is the best and most predictable appliance for cooking the bread. Cakes too. I'd love to cook it in a camp oven but fire restrictions where we mostly camp mean no fire. I'm sooo glad our van has an oven.
