Rocket, there are a number of vehicles that are rated to tow 3.5t. Toyota Landcruiser 200 series, Mazda BT50, Isizu D-Max, Holden Colorado, VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne but to name a few. Guess it depends on your budget.

Even a Dodge 2500 Ram brand new and better finished than a Toyota Sahara and will tow it better, all for around similar money ie $110,000. Your budget needs to stretch that far though

That is brand new and converted to RHD!

Hi, We have no tow vehicle at the moment. Our car took its last tow and has been pensioned off.

We have tried to buy a new holden Colorado  4x4 auto 2014. Got told by a salesman at a holden dealership that they  sold one for $36,300 last month. We offered the same money and it seems that is not enough money this month. I am done with changing prices. Now, we are looking at what we can get secondhand.

Rocket, I know you mentioned your experience about the Colorado but as a new Collie owner I must say that after all the research and homework I put into it I made the right choice for sure. My decision is one of the best I have made so far on this planet. Can't speak for the other planet though. Well worth all the $$$$$ I spent and I tell you that for free. Just screw 'em to the wall. I did.

HI, They know they have a sale. Maybe they are selling  soooooo many they do not need my business. I am happy with the Colorado also but I am not paying considerably more today than last month. not often I buy a new car and would also like to be happy about the price ,  not sign up feeling ripped off.

 Rocket Hi,

Can You survive for another two weeks? I have found that dealers are more likely to "horse trade" at the end of the month, also consider driving, getting a lift or whatever to the next town/suburb, the other dealers may be a bit hungrier.

Rocket,
Don't give up on the Colorado if that's what you want. Try approaching dealers towards the end of a month when they have to meet their sales targets. You may just find some may be more willing. Also give the dealer a hard time. By that I mean ask all sorts of questions relevant or not to the point where all the guy wants to do is get rid of you (be a pain in the backside) and finally agrees to your conditions. Also let them know that another dealer made you a better offer and would he match it or better it?

An interesting thread.

We currently have a Toyota 79 series with a canopy on the rear set up for remote travel. We've been doing this for about 15 years but are now traveling much more often with the van in tow. So, the time will come in the next year or so to change the tug to something a bit more comfortable, yet still be reasonably capable.

At this stage, I'm kinda favoring the Mazda BT-50, but that may change... with an ATM of 3.1t on the van, I definitely want something rated at 3500kg and also something with a bit of weight as well.

If you're thinking about buying a new vehicle try Private Fleet, they're online, don't charge for the service they provide and deliver a great deal - saved me $7000 on my Mazda but they also do deals on other makes and models.

The Nissan Patrol is a very good tug, particularly the 4.8 L Petrol and new V8 models. Cheers , KB
