Charming Charleville .

Gday.We have just had 3 delightful days here. What a great place.Peaceful ,quiet ,wide roads ,top RSL and we noticed not 1 bit of graffittl ! Since we a came up to see a cousin of mine we needed to stay in town at the Bailey Bar Park so we could do the family thing.Aside from very busy,we were fortunate to be given one of the rear large sites.I had misgivings re this park, however they all went out the window. We found it to be the most social park on our trip so far .The $18 stew/damper and sweets was huge.Showers etc big and dry handy dump point and all round AOK.  I just had to take a couple of pics of the walls of the only clothes shop.I estimated they had 30K worth of Akubra hats on display. The jeans display was massive !! The last 600 kays was covered in the most road kill I have ever seen .We are off to St George in the morn and my neighbor just came from their and he stopped counting road kill at 160 roos !23 deg C here. All the parks have a good name and all have the special nights .The Cosmos centre has a night show of stars in 4 telescopes and fair dinkum it is really spectacular. Lots of real nice freecamp sites without hassles from locals if you get my drift. My son in law was in Bourke on Fri night the main street was blocked off by the locals being very restless it was not a good sight for his 8 year old son ! Sad really. , Anyway we are having a ball and every day is better than yesterday jeeze I love this vanning.Cheers JohnDSCN0564.JPGphoto (16).JPGphoto (17).JPG

Gday...

When you get to St George make sure you call into the Unique Egg - in the main street. Steve Margaritus, originally from Greece, and not long after his arrival in Australia he took to the art of emu egg carving.

It is an incredible place you will enjoy.

You have just got to get one of those big cream Akubras, a light blue shirt & a pair of RM Williams cream mole skins.  Finish off with a pair of RM laughing side boots & you're almost a local.

We often buy a range of clothes in the country towns  (perhaps not the ones mentioned above).

Yes, it would be nice to be able to afford the real thing.  (as in RMW)  The closest I get to the real thing is buying Outback Magazine occasionally.

Glad moama john is enjoying Charleville.  We have been there couple of times now, but not on this trip.

If you go further south to Hebel (on the Castlereagh river near NSW/QLD border) you'll see emus galore. This picture was sent by friends of ours who manage a property near Hebel.
They do a lot of damage to the fences and are NOT liked.

I have great memories of pig hunting in the Hebel area.

We were camped on the river at New Angledool.

Met the Owner/Manager at a cricket game at the local Hebel pub, where we happened to be on game day & made up the numbers.

Got lots of good sized 'Captain Cookers' & educated my young English bull terrier greyhound cross dog.  He was a good 'un.

Had a nice day down at Lightning Ridge on that trip (circa 1965).

Didn't see too many Emu's around there in those days.    I have tried to creep up on them though.  Bloody impossible! They just keep strolling away without apparent  effort or alarm, no matter how fast you go or how carefully you stalk them.
