Animated GIF as an avatar

Is there a trick to having an animated GIF as an avatar? I've seen a couple of animated avatars but my new avatar is only displaying a static image, which  works as intended when loaded into Internet Explorer as a file, but not on the forum - either in IE or my usual browser, Firefox.

Joe,

Try saving it to My Pictures and then onto GN, not sure if it will work though.

Here is another Av I use from time to time that does work as animated, not sure why though.  It is also GIF.

Hmmmmm.   not moving now though.  Only one the Avatar upload as shown here using the upload from my computer button.

Vic, to make that gif work in the topic you need to post it as a signature not as a picture.

I have tried using gif's as AV never seems to work for me, could be the size of the gif file.

I know how to post a signature, but how do you get a photo to go on it confuse confuse confuse

I thought you wanted the gif in the topic, photo in sig has to be a certain size, not very big

jpw50 has this query Wombat if you can help him.

The camel one (GIF) works for me on my Avatar (14.2kb), but not animated in the body of the post or as a signature (how do you post a pic in the signature, copy and paste?????)

grab a pic or anim from anywhere right click and select Save As, save it to your pooter and use it wherever you want but be aware of copyright, my GN sig anim I made myself.

Ah ha! It's now working. Had to reduce the size from 300x300 pixels to 100x100, and it's now 22.4kb. Thanks Womby & Vic for your input.
