Caframo fans

Anyone using the Caframo 748 or 807 fans in their caravan or motor home?

My preference is the smaller 748 because at high speed it only draws .25amp whereas the 807 draws .4amps. I actually don't know if that's significant, my house battery is 100 amp/h. Its only required for those hot nights free camping.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Its not in technical because I'm after more of a comfort feedback then a technical one

We went the other way and bought a Companion rechargeable oscillating fan - no wiring or mounting and a big fan for a wide airflow, runs for 3 hours before you need to recharge and has an inbuilt light.
I looked the the Caframo and similar type fans but they cannot easily be moved from one end of the van to the other or to the annexe area whereas with a rechargeable one you can even take it fishing with you. Quality will not be the same as Caframo due to the lower price however but we are happy with our Companion as indeed you sound to be as well with your Caframo.

Just digressing, Hako is this the one you have?   12V/240V recharging?

Also if you don't mind where did you buy yours from?

Sorry, back to your query on Caframo Fans Bryan....hmm

I have  the 748 mounted in the sleeping area & also a 747 mounted in the cab of my motorhome and the 747 gives better air flow I would say this is due to having no protective grill like the 748.

Cheers

Jeff

We carry two small Caframos with suction cup bases. Easy to move  around if you have strategically placed 12v outlets, have used them outside as well from an outlet In a hatch.  Excellent product.

Thanks for the feedback. I was looking at a fixed mount near the bed and hadn't considered other areas, maybe need two.

Yes Vic, paid $139.90 at Katherine when it was so hot we would pay anything to cool down. They are versatile, quiet and you can add another (wetcell) battery and double the run time or run it via 240v or a 12v cigarette plug.

Didn't realise Bryan was after a fixed unit.

Looks like in WA at least The 12 Volt Shop in Welshpool stock the one your interested in and perhaps the other models;

Hi Bryan, I have the 807 as do many other GN from here and find it great. I just sit mine on the bench plugged into a 12v socket. That way I can move it around. I put a slightly wider base on to do that though.

Yes .. Like you Doug ..

I also have the 807 but in a fixed position and centrally located in the van ..

It's flexibility allows air to be directed in any direction .. happy with the unit this time .. (1st one died after 7 months)

It's  quiet operation and efficiency is superb ..

Thanks once again, ours is only a small van so the central location sounds good and the 807 it is.

Dennis the non-fixed unit is a good idea as I had not given any thought to sitting outside on those hot evenings with no breeze and a host of mozzies. I'll get a fixed one for inside and one with a suction cup to fit on the side of the van under the awning.

We acquired two of the 807's while at Greens lake Xmas 2013 they work great fitted one at head of the bed and the other diagonally opposite

behind the cafe dinette. Both can be faced over bed for either of us or faced over the Table with the bed head one facing towards rear of the van.

On slow speed they draw even less and move a fair amount of air and very quiet, great for days and nights. Good investment.

Cheers Kev

Morning Bryan,

I installed a Caframo 807 in the sleeping area of our MH about 12 months ago, it certainly does a great job and uses very little power.

The 2, 4, 6, 8 hour timer feature is handy.

Bought it from Whitworths Marine, I notice the price has risen quite steeply $200 plus postage, perhaps they are available cheaper elsewhere.

The 12V shop also stocks them and offers 10% discount to CMCA members.

They have them on special at $139 from time to time.

Have one mounted on a wooden base with a 5 metre lead so it can be used anywhere there is a 12v point to plug into.

I know the guys at Whitworth Mosman Park well from my sailing days. I'll hit them up for a good deal. I've only had the van for a week, I'll have a good look where to fit it and then get the 747 suction mount for under the awning.

Its a 14 foot van so I think I may get away with it in pic 1, same side as the gas heater. The bed is not far away in pic 2 (Kathy took these pics last Friday when we were taking delivery) but I think one is enough for inside.

Oops the pics were supposed to be under the text and not so big.

Fitted 2 of the 748's under the overhead cupboard over the bed's & they worked a treat, quiet & used very little power right up till the boss left one on during our travels to "keep the cat cool" & it picked up the curtain cord & fried. Couldn't get another the same at the time so I installed two of the "Sirocco" type with the inbuilt timers, very worthwhile, quiet & the timers are a great idea. Moved the remaining 748 to the dining area. Tried many different types before settling on these just for the noise factor, im an extremely light sleeper & cant stand the noise most fans make when im trying to have a kip.
