An artical on the front page of the Bowen Independant wants to grab the nomads bucks by offering cheap camping despite objections from the C/P onwers, it's states that with all the nomads passing through they are missing out on this cash register.

The above could be the article that Barrie is referring to, but I can not enlarge or open it to read.Just google Bowen Independent and see if you have any success.
Now!!!
We have always given bowen a big miss, as they have made it known that they do not want us in there community.
A shame, as would would like to support this great little community.
OH!! Yes!!! we did stop there once to look at the street and the hotel where they made the movie AUSTRALIA.

Neither could I, only shows a slide show of some front pages but no links to the story. However, seems Bowen isn't the only town seeing the light ... this was in Rockhampton's local rag yesterday

We have just sent a detail email to the Bowen City Council regarding the benefits of the huge market that we the RV owners can offer a town like Bowen.
Receive a reply saying that the message will be passed on to the relevant department and we can expect a response in the near future.
Will advise all regards the outcome.

Rockhampton could probably get a Dump Point by talking to CMCA. They usually provide part funding for the installation. As you drive over the bridge from the city center, there is a caravan park on the left hand side under the bridge, on the river. I don't know who owns it now, but it was owned by Rockhampton City Council. I know this because in the early 1960s when it was built, I did the electrical installation. Whilst I welcome the Council's actions in providing free camping for RVs, it's hard to understand why they are competing with themselves if they still own the CP.

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
We have enjoyed a number of memorable holidays in beautiful Bowen, mostly prior to our vanning days. Largely these were spent in basic motel style accommodation near Horseshoe Bay. Unfortunately, on our last trip up there we took our van and stayed at one of the caravan parks. What an eye-opener that proved to be. I've never encountered a less inclusive group of people ever. It was as if anyone who hadn't been coming to this particular park for at least the past 10 years was an intruder.
The park was completely overcrowded and we were told to set up in a particular spot. Sadly, that happened to be next door to an itinerant worker who must have had the noisiest old 4X4 on the planet. At about 4am each morning he would start up the beast from hell and would leave it running for at least 20 minutes before leaving the park for work. Rather than waste the "warm-up time" he and his other half would vacuum the van and tend to their little garden surrounding their annexe. Such selfish people.
We've decided never to go back and that's a shame, because we still have fond memories of the place.
I was thinking today that maybe it is time we pointed out to CP's that is is not fun camping with a whole lot of permanents and 'workers' - and that if they want us then decide just what they are. A miners camp with some CHEAP spots for travelers, a Permanent park with some CHEAP spots for travelers.....?????
The excuse that we dont spend much in small towns is not totally right either. I cannot carry enough fresh fruit and veg from the big city shops to keep me going for more than a few days
