Buying MH, What Certificates Do I Need?

Hi all, Have just said 'yes' to buying a second hand Mercedes Sprinter motorhome.  I know that I should be given a Safety Certificate and a Gas Certificate and I've also arranged for a mechanic to do a pre-purchase inspection.  Are there any other checks or certificates that I need to get prior to paying the balance of purchase price?

You will also require an Electrical Certification. An Electrical Contractor must inspect the installation, issue a Certificate which you should display somewhere near the batteries or the 240 Main Switch. There are different State Regulations, but the Electrical and Gas Certifications are a must...

Make sure you get a current weighbridge certificate showing the total weight and each axle separately.
Compare that with the vehicle limits per axle and the GVM.
Then calculate the additional weight you will add for fuel, water, gas, passengers, food etc, etc. and make sure there is plenty of legal spare capacity.

If you make an error with this it may not be possible to fix.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi

As far as I can understand you need certificates of compliance for electrical and gas, as suggested before get a mechanic or even better an engineer to certify the whole structure complying with ADS (Australian design standards) I recon that should give you a warm fuzzy feeling when you part with the hard earnt.

Safe travels

PS: I agree with Peter regarding the weight business.. very important stuff.
