alstonville showground

We are presently on our way up the top. We were having a lovely time, have met the most remarkable people, that was until we had the displeasure of going to the Alstonville showground for  the night.  We met the most rudest caretaker there, that you could amagine.  It did not give Alstonville a good name. We did not stay there, as I objected being spoken to in his manner.  Just wanting to let other Nomads know, and would advise giving this showground a miss

hello and welcome to the playground. Just like when you were at school. always a nasty piece in the crowd. plenty other places to go. heading north - Woodford showgrounds and Maleny showgrounds have great friendly caretakers. if you are going through Brisbane - Lawnton showgrounds on the northside near Petrie is a lovely place and if you are near call in for a cuppa. rocket n strop

What a shame that is, we lived at Alstonville for 3 years and loved it, there is always someone that will put people off..............really is a lovely area

That's a pity. We stayed at Alstonville Showground and had no problems. Trouble is, if you move on, the problem persists. Might be better to try and find out if council or Show society know the caretaker is being rude. It's happened in other places, and the rude people have been replaced. The Show Society will miss out if people are turned away by rudeness.

As a local in the area, i know for a fact that The Alstonville Agricultural Society and Ballina Coincil would want to know about complaints of this nature  ...

Stayed there once and mostly ok, but the caretaker has an attitude problem, is well known for it so we weren`t surprised and simply ignored the bad manners.........still a lovely little spot for a few days and being close to Ballina or Lismore makes for a cheap spot to spend a few days.

Suggest you try the CP at Wardell just off the highway, but quiet....low cost and lower if you are a CMCA member ....highly recommend !!

I think this is the same showgrounds that we stayed at. There was a large under covered ( Shed) area with power points. Selected this spot as it was in the winter, so a little less cold. And yes the caretaker was no gentleman.

We had the same experience at Alstonville last year.

Caretaker tried to park me on very sloppy wet grass with a bit of a slope but I pointed out that the shed was nearly empty.

Eventually he agreed to let us go into the shed, then he tried to give me reversing directions - disaster in the making. Fortunately I ignored him.

Then he finished up by rubbishing the Committee that run the grounds.

We will not be going back.

One too many complaints me thinks ...... as I have a vested interest in that part of the world, I have sent an email to the AASociety advising them that there have been some complaints posted on line and their content.  Hopefully they will sit up and take note!  I will let you know if I get a response which I did ask for.

Thanks Chaslib......the guy is a serial offender & needs to be moved on if his attitude can`t improve.

Response from the Alstonville Showground .... Not sure if i read it correctly, but the response in my,opinion was a bit non-committal??  At least they are aware and apparently have actually seen the negative posts on this site.  Will be interesting if the complaints continue or not ...

I am aware of the particular comment you are referring to as is our
President.

To keep myself informed I also have joined the Grey Nomad website and found
the forum very interesting and informative and understand that the feedback
and suggestions made on various locations would be of great assistance to
the traveller.

Please note that there was immediately a response from a happy camper.

I took the opportunity after reading the post to enquire amongst a few
campers on site during the last week and am happy to inform you that they
are content and enjoying their experience with us.

As I am at the showground a number of days after work and a lot of weekend
hours I do get to meet and greet a number of our campers and of course our
longer termers.

I have also seen quite a number of the postcards and messages of thanks that
our caretakers receive from campers that have moved on and still wish to
keep in contact.

Further I believe the comment to which you are particular referring to was
on a forum and I believe that people are entitled to their opinion as that
is what the forum is for.  In most instances I think people would make their
own decisions and would use a forum for perhaps some direction.

I thank you for your time to let us know your feelings and rest assured we
will continue to monitor and act on any feedback that we do receive.

Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Lock
