Giru free camp

In between Ayr and Townsville it's a grassy site but has no facilities but it's a good one nighter.

No facilities - so I suppose the toilet block that used to be there has been moved. you can also park up near the river which is a few KMs out of town & catch fish there. Just watch out for crocs.

never mind the crocs we looked at staying there but the mossies are huge and the sandflies were in in swarms.
The council knocked down the toilet blocks and the locals are not happy about it.

Sounds a nice camp Barrie, I have made a note of that for future reference. A little close I think but will be looking for a nice free camp along the Bruce about 3 hours or so from Townsville in a few weeks maybe.

There used to be a caravan park @ Giru, with an elderly man managing it. the amenities were really old, everything needed fixing, but it was such a beautiful place! I guess the old bloke has moved on to a better campground now.
I wonder what happened to that C/Park?

If I remember rightly at Giru you camp between the railway line and sugar mill..? Will be up Townsville way myself in a few weeks Dougwe there are a few great freedom camps , I spent about a month kicking back enjoying the weather . I'm at a little town called Woodford tonight (QLD) and I gotta tell you it's getting pretty cool, can't wait to hit the warmer weather again, cheers Jamille
