RE: Need some feedback

Have not done the stretch from Hughenden to Winton. But from Winton to Longreach and on to Barcaldine is normal bitumen highway. Pretty flat most of the time. Road east from Barcaldine continues good. Goes through a small range, east of Alpha, but nothing to worry about really. Busier east of Emerald and more truck traffic.

Welcome Seaeagle,

Suggest do an Edit and change your title to "Road Conditions Hughenden/Winton/Longreach" or similar to get more attention.

Your post then indicates what sections/roads you are interested in.   I have been on some of them but too long ago to be of help.

Some of the solo's were travelling those recently (still on the road heading west).

If you type in each road you are researching into the Search field (click on Search on the dark blue line above) you will also see previous threads on the subject....

Seaeagle, mid last year all that area you ask about was in a state of repair so should think it would be good black road all the way now. Keep in mind the Kennedy is a developmental road but should be a narrow road with black surface, this time last year it was 6" of thick mud for 10km's but that was due to flooding and a truck roll. Should be fine now. Maybe give the council in Winton a ring as they were doing the work back then.

At Winton now, just travelled from Emerald. Good road all the way but was astonished at the amount of road kill. Mainly Roos but Emu, pigs, goats. Bloody drought

RE: Road conditions/Hughenden/Winton/Longreach

Travelled this road last September, Winton to Hughenden. Little traffic, reasonable sealed surface, you really are in the great Aussie outback....

Spent the night at the Stamford Roadhouse. Does have very basic powered sites and bore water, but as is often the case views from unpowered area were better. Stunning sunset and sunrise, total isolation, occasional truck passing by. One of our most memorable nights. Highly recommended .
