If your drive has plenty of spare capacity you can partition your drive and put windows 7 in the partition and you can then boot up whichever operating system you require.
If you are on a pension and your local computer service guy has the authorisation from Microsoft he can install win 7 for a very low price, in my case I had Win7 and Office installed on a refurbished computer for $50 and he should be able to partition you drive without charging too much.
In windows 8 , one side is windows 7 and the other Metro , why not use the windows 7 side and not metro. When I got mine , I wanted 8 OFF but a guru mate of mine assured me that 8 was far better and faster and now 12 months later I probably agree , what he said was just persevere for a while ,

I agree with your mate Exa, have been running Windows 8 for about 6 months, upgraded from XP, bit of a learning curve, no big deal, nothing the average person couldn't master in a week or so.
To down grade your operating system from win 8 you just need Gparted it is free and will give you access to your hard drive partition table etc. I just remove the partition, re create and re format it to NTFS or whatever you think or leave it raw. Then just reload the CD of choice say win 7 and it will happily comply to install.
Download Gparted and burn the image to DVD or CD and shut down your computer and then restart it, If it doesn't start Gparted you will have to alter your BIOS to boot off your DVD drive first. It is not that hard just a bit of know how.
