We recently stayed at Bonus Downs, a property 40 klms on bitumen, SW of Mitchell, Qld. Owners Lyle & Madonna went out of their way to welcome us and share the history. We parked our van up next to an ensuite, water & power. There is a big camp kitchen with spit and lots of accommodation in the old jackaroo quarters. Madonna will even cook your dinner, if you wish. It has been 3 years without rain, 7 dams empty and not a blade of grass in sight. It was a real eye opener for us and it would be great if more people went off the beaten track to support our country cousins who are doing it tough out here.

So many out there doing it tough and some opening their property to tourism in the hope of funding the feeding of their stock.
We would love to stay on one of these properties and don't begrudge giving them our money for a couple days stay. I guess insurance problems would crop up and maybe that is why property owners are a bit hesitant to acccomodate nomads. We will keep this property in mind on our trip up there in a month or so. Thanks for the tip Staffman.
