Falcon shock absorbers

Hi

I have a 13 year old BA Falcon which has done 136,000 kms. When the caravan is attached (weighs 1600kg all up, tow ball weight 105kg) the car seems to bounce around a lot.

Is it time to get new rear shock absorbers in the car?

Hi John, probably new shocks and springs. You do not qualify if it's front or rear or both. Do you have the Ford tow pack?

Yep that's the first thing to do John,,, bounce = no dampening

Thanks for the replies - you have both confirmed my line of thinking. Larry I have the Hayman Reece heavy tow pack. I think I will talk to my service guy and get his assessment of the shock absorbers, both front and back.

i have a ba falcon wagon , dedicated gas, 300,000klm i had heavy duty springs fitted and the car sat up really well when loaded
towed caravan with it for 8yrs,now redundant ranger now used for towing .ian

More info would help a lot.
1600Kg Tow bar or 2300Kg Hitch receiver?
Van make & Model?
ATM?
Vehicle sizes and pressures?
Van Tyre type (Car or light truck) size and pressure?
But going by what little info you have posted and assuming the laden weight is actually 1600Kg and not just a guess, I'd also look at vehicle and van tyre pressures and it its an Aussie van then I'd move some hear to increase the Ball weight to around 160Kg+ and use an appropriate WDH.

Go to suspension experts like Pedders .. Going through a Ford dealer is going to cost more with less quality .
They will have better bushes too ..

Car: BA Falcon - rear tyres 40psi, front 36psi
Caravan: Van tyres - light truck 6 ply, 50psi
Hitch: Winterhoff WS3000 hitch hence no WDH

I know this is a bit old but here goes.

OzJohn you asked for more information which I supplied but I have not had any response from you.

Given what I stated do you now have any suggestions re my need or otherwise to replace my rear and/or front shock absorbers?
