crossing the nullabor

We are currently in ceduna. Have to stay in accomodation . Dont want to travel more than 5 hrs. Thinking Eucla. Balladonia. Kallgoorlie . Any tips. Ideas on places to stay? Heading Perth maybe stay Northam? Or is there somewhere before , affordable. Thanks any help for 2 Tasmanians be greatly appreciated.

I would first recommend you get wikicamps online to get more info on the spots you could stay at. ( if you have a Ipad or smart phone its an excellent app for about 3 dollars.) We have got a lot of use out of it. Then Do you have a Camps Australia touring book. Full of great info too.
As for places on the Nullabor trip. Madura pass road house and caravan park we found better than some out there. Nullabor roadhouse is pricey but everything is out there. it will do as you don't get much choice in this part of OZ. Wide open spaces. Try not to fuel up here. diesel about $2.09 per L Nundroo cheaper.
Cheap fuel Eucla.
Enjoy the trip across. Don't rush and be prepared for the amenities not to be as good as home. For YOU WILL be disappointed.
Stop an look at the great Australian bite. where you can.
A wild ocean.

There are many places on the Nullarbor where you can pull off the road and get well away from the highway where you can stop for a short break or stay overnight.
Cheers

Include Merredin as a stop as the Chinese food there is absolutely beautiful.

Gday...

This is a useful website for the Nullarbor.

http://www.nullarbornet.com.au/

Each roadhouse has caravan parks associated with them - power available, not usually water, amenities are basic.

I note you say you "have to stay in accommodation". Does that mean you are travelling a car only?

I cannot recall much about 'motel-style' accommodation as I travelled with my own van. But I think they are available.

Cheers - John

Gday...

... it is the "net nanny" the forum uses

if you want to say ****lebiddy .... you need to say it like this .... c0cklebiddy (numeral 0 not alpha o) ... or c o c k elbiddy ...

It is amusing .. there are a couple of other words it picks up ... even in the middle of a 'legitimate' word ... but I can't remember them at the moment

cheers - John

Nullarbor Roadhouse is ok, likewise Border Village or Eucla. C0cklebiddy ok. Fraser Range - a campground set up on a sheep property - is very pleasant - I think they have cabins but not sure.

Most of the roadhouses have accommodation. A lot of people drive just cars. Very basic though. Roadhouses are approx.  200-250 klms apart. there are plenty of places to stop and rest, though not all have toilets.

If you are looking for a stopover in Kalgoorlie, would recommend Prospector Holiday Park, 9-11 Ochiltree Street, they have onsite cabins and easy access into town. Just stayed there last week due to a problem with the car and the were very helpful.

you may well find that you'll do more than 5 hrs a day as its a pretty easy drive. Most of the roadhouses have rooms available (1+2 star) but take your own pillows. Have just done our 11th crossing of which 4 were without the van. Most expensive fuel is always at Nullabor ($2.09 diesel last Tues)
